It is very dry in Colorado and the door handles in my office are metal. Every time I get up and try to open the door, I get shocked. I've tried proping open the doors...and I've tried touching other things, but it doesn't help...It is starting to hurt!

Take out your car keys (or really any metal object) and touch the knob with the tip of the key. You will see a spark hit they key and feel a little jolt in the hand holding the key, but you will feel it less because the shock is spread over your whole hand instead of the one spot where the spark hits, and it will hurt less. After you have discharged your self that way you should be able to grab the knob without another shock.

Stand up straight from seats...when you slide out it causes static electricity to build up. Also, pick your feet up when you walk...don't drag them. If all else fails, invest in a humidifyer...it will help with some of the static electricity in the air. You can purchase a decent one for under $40.

You are not properly grounded! Please go to the hardware store and purchase a grounding kit similar to the ones used on the most popular automobiles. Affix the kit to your arm and you'll be fine.
