Okay, so we're going to design a box to neutralize the atmospheric effects of global warming. Let's assume that all current pollution, exhaust, etc. continues at the same rate...that we can't get anybody to change anything about what they are doing to hurt the atmosphere, but it doesn't get any worse.

1. What would the inputs to the box be? (What substances should the box take in?) (Amounts, if you can.)
2. What would the output from the box be?
(What substances should the box emit?)
3. Assuming our box works almost instantly, returning our atmosphere to the condition it was in before we started messing with it, and neutralizing the current level of pollution, how long would it take before we saw the effects of what we did, and saw climate patterns return to normal?
4. If you think we need more than one box with different processes, please state.
5. If you don't think there is a problem with global warming, go back to the kitchen, get another beer, and chill for a while.

Yes, I know they save the enviroment, but how and who pays them? A doctor gets paid monthly, is that the same with an environmentlist? What do they acually do to save the enviroment and get food on their tables?

it kinda bugs me how i go through the enviroment section of questions and there is a ton of people answering saying that global change in the climate is not real....... are they trying to say that they are smarter about the subject than scientists who study their whole lives about the climate and the earth.......scientists have proven that there is a global climate change....why cant people just accept it. scientists have proven it is real and i beleive them because that is what they do they are proffesionals, why are some people so ignorant?..

We need to start making changes; the ice caps are melting, and were depleting our natural resources, oil, and lumber ect..

I can't help but feel helpless, I feel like the people in power and have the influence and money to make real changes won't, because their driven to much by dollar signs.

Plus I've also been thinking that a good majority of people are too comfortable with their life styles, and don't want to change to make a difference in this world.

I also get the feeling that many people would like to deny, and or ignore that the world is suffering.

We are affecting our environment, the human population, pollution, and were exhausting our resources, so I don't believe we can just throw up our arms and say it’s not our fault.

I'd also just like to say that if we ignore this, it won't go away, and by the time it seems that most people will take notice is when it’s too late. We won't be able to reverse time and regain all we have lost.

What can we do?

...if you knew it was saving your neighbor over $300 per month on his ENERGY BILL?

(before answering) VIEW THE VIDEO:
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2007/07/28/acosta.nj.windmill.fight.cnn

Isn't this one of the solutions to our ENERGY problems we're all looking for?

Perhaps there's some noise associated with the Windmill, but would you begrudge your neighbor from having this?
Or, would you look into have one of your own installed?

Could this be (one of) America's energy-solutions?

When a person with silicon breast implants dies, and they are buried, do their fake boobs just stay in the ground. And also, If a person is cremated, do they have to remove them do to air pollution concerns.

If a person does have fake boobs, shouldn't they be removed at the funeral home and be disposed of as industrial waste?

We've got a pretty rude neighbor who has ignored our few tactfully asked requests to remove the smelly mothballs they placed on the ground beneath all of their precious tomato plants that is literally only 2-3 feet from our driveway where my young children frequently play. Is there anything we can do, environmental-wise, in notifying my township to contact them directly for removal of the mothballs in the name of contaminating the ground with naphthalene? Thanks...

Yet another study has shown that eating beef significantly adds to your carbon footprint. In 'Meat production beefs up emissions' (Thursday July 19 Guardian Unlimited) it states that per 1kg (2.2lbs) of beef produced 'The emissions are equivalent to the amount of CO2 released by an average car every 160 miles, plus the energy consumption is equal to a 100W bulb being left on for 20 days' & that 'producing the meat caused substantial amounts of greenhouse gases & other pollutants', because 'the production of 1kg of beef releases greenhouse gases with a warming potential equivalent to 36.4kg of carbon dioxide'.

This would mean that per 1kg of beef eaten you'd have to offset by purchasing the equivalent of ONE TREE EACH YEAR, because the average offset per mature tree per year is 35kg. Bearing in mind that the beef calculations DID NOT include emissions from farm equipment, or from transporting the meat, or from the effects of DEFORESTATION to clear land for grazing, so...(cont below).

I sincerely believe there is a global warming problem, and it's probably our fault. But most of the measures I've seen to combat it involve raising taxes, forcing companies to regulate their emissions, and pushing laws to limit our everyday behavior (I think it was Australia that banned regular light bulbs) like how much electricity we use, and how we use it.

My question is, is there any method that will reduce global warming that doesn't lessen our freedom?

With all these ?'s about global warming, it seems to me that some people really don't know what they are talking about. When I was in school in the 70's-80's we were all being taught that we were headed for another ice age. Now people are saying that the globe is getting warmer. Seeing as that temperature records have only been recorded for about 120 years it really seems we really don't know a darn thing about the true global atmosphere as far as the temp. goes. The world has always gone through changes, warming and then cooling, over and over again. Just because we might be in a warming period for a few years, is there really reason for concern? If we were getting cooler would there be the same concern? I'm sure that certain people would try to make a name for themselves then as well. Do you recycle? Recycling always costs more in energy than than using a virgin product. Why do it? It doesn't help anything, in fact due to the cost it hurts more. Why bother?

Hydrogen has a few problems. It takes energy to make it. It takes plenty of space to store it. How do you get around these problems to make it a viable option for a motor vehicle?

Can somebody give me an idea of how this stacks up as an alternative vehicle fuel. How large does a tank need to be to get reasonable vehicle range? How does it go for Cost? Environment? etc.

Please supply links so any claims can be verified.

Hi world! I am German, living in Cancun and I started something really good and big. I even put some videos in youtube. Sorry, the most videos are in German and Spanish and not professional, because I made them alone. But together we could change many things. Here is the link: www.youtube.com/cancunhans In Mexico I already received good critics and many people join my project: On 9th of september at 9 pm everybody has to switch off the lights for 9 minutes and then the people will ask: "Why" This exactly is the moment when the news, tv, radio have to talk about it and then we can respond and inform the people about everything. And for sure the until now closed doors of the rich people and politicians can be opened to start to talk about saving our sick planet. The tecnology like solar panels, electric cars already exist. We only have to modify things. I agree, it will cost a lot of money, but this investments wil even create more jobs. There are no excuses. We can do it - together
