Recently hugh wind farms are being constructed around my area of Texas. Right now they seem to me like huge works of art but the appeal may wear off. How do you feel about them?

Does it actually matter what they look like as long as they are doing a good job?

We live in Spain and there are many windfarms on the hills here. They are spectacular and good for the environment - what more could you ask for?

They're planning on putting up several wind farms right near me in the near future. We have one bought by the local highschool. It's been up for several years now. And while its fine to look at and the novilty hasn't worn off yet I have no doubt it will. I like wind turbines just fine as long as their are in somebody elses yard I guess. I know from walking to work, nearly a mile away from ONE turbine that they do make a good deal of noise. I can't imagine what the people who live very near them go through.

I'm betting when they first brought electricity out to farms, they thought the poles and lines were at first appealing and then ugly. I feel that we need the wind farms because we're ruining the earth with mining and oil drilling. Until we work out solar, we have to put up with things like wind farms. I'm sorry you're losing the enchantment.

I believe they are absolutely beautiful to watch. They are very calming. It's reassuring to see alternative sources of energy being used more often. They are definitely more appealing than those ugly oil rigs and better for the environment. I'm glad you like them thus far and I doubt you will stop. They remind me of those toys kids play with that move when wind blows on them (yay nostalgia!)

I lived near several in the North of England for several years. The appeal never wore off. I loved them. I would sneak in when noone was around & stand under the blades looking up - very scary but very cool!

We need more of them.

Well, Anything manmade that clutters our landscape can be obtrusive! But I have to admit the windmills are well designed and a beautiful object. They have a positive function. And though I would prefer a purist landscape, I would rather look at windmills than rows and rows of haphazard ugly WIRES and poles! When are we going underground?

I like them, but it's a bit of a distraction when I drive up to San Francisco. If I see them every day it might mildly annoy me, but I even doubt that. I don't complain about the giant towers that hold the power lines.

It is better we all start getting used to seeing things like this than continue to depend on oil and fossil fuels.
There are several in California and when I travel I actually enjoy the sight of them. They remind me that there are better alternatives and that we all need to be more responsible with our home -- the Earth.

Depends on the sind farm design.

I kind of like the looks of the one at Altimont Pass in Calif...

But they can be done in ways that would just be ugly.

Eyesore - see what they are doing to the English countryside too.Natural beauty is far superior to Art anyway.
They don't build them down in the South where the politicians live most of the time.

Edit : I am talking about the South of England of course! I don't know what the equivalent in the U.S. is for where the politicians have their homes.
