Environment - July 2007

While I DO think there are many enviomental issues that we need to address and find solutions for . . . I think most of what we are told about global warming is political hype, used to sway voters.

I think we should do everything we can to clean up our act but I think all the "drama-queen" approach will only turn people off to it.

Anyone else agree?

Do you know of any brands i could use?
Or anything that would convert a gas engine into a fuel efficient engine.
Im looking fo something that would run on something such as vegitable oil or something similar. Links would be highly appreciated. I wont get an ATV any other way. THANK YOU FOR THE HElP!

And who gets the fleet? The government? A private taxicab operating company? Who takes ownership of the fleet of green taxicabs? Can I start a taxicab company in Hastings NE and apply for receipt of the green taxis?

So Hastings NE is the greenest city in the US? I wonder if it might be a better idea to have Yahoo help them with their web site, since it still bears a 2002 copyright notice. You'd think that they'd at least put out a press release on their web site indicating this high honor from Yahoo!, but there's nothing there.

the enviromentals are all happy about the ipcc report saying that yes global warming is real...and that yes, it is attributed to man and nature.........but they are crying ddt because the ipcc report will not say it is an immediate danger.....they wanted more gloom and doom so they could advance their causes..which, by the way, if allowed, would bring the world to it's knees, millions upon millions of people would die...you want gloom and doom, just go green.....i will debate this with anybody, i know the facts..

Whilst disposing of my waste paper in the recycling point I noticed that somebody had stuck an unauthorised notice on the facility.

This notice warned that recycling was such an environmentally damaging process that we should not do it. It was quite cleverly worded too, and in these days of "greenwash" it was quite easy to be sceptical at first. THE IMPORTANT THING IS, THAT IT IS MISLEADING!

Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and other environmental groups give paper recycling their backing.

There's employment opportunities with recycling.

In fact, the only ones who suffer from recycling being chosen ahead of landfilling are those who manufacture paper from virgin wood, and those who cut down trees.

I just wanted to warn anyone who might (understandably) worry that they were not using the best environmental option to dispose of their waste when they recycle.

Okay, once again, a serious question for a gw skeptic.

Why would you plant more trees?
Trees are seasonal, ie their leaves are only around for a short period of time. And for those of you that road the short bus to school, the leaves are what recycles co2 not the trunk or limbs.
Would it not make more sense to plant vine like plants such as kudzu or replace acers of forrest with grass?
You could make an statement about evergreens, however, a blade of grass is much thicker, so I doubt an evergreen needle is going to produce as much oxygen as a blade of grass.
Grass is like the floor in your house or better yet in a store. You don't pay any attention to it, but no matter what happens to the isles (shelves) it's always there and covers every inch, instead of a few random spots.
