I work for a brand new company that wants to focus on its environmental responsibility. What can employees, management etc. do? (And yes, we do recycle!)

When St. Helens volcano blew, scientists said that the emmissions equelled man-kinds output in a whole year every 8 seconds. There are more than just volcanoes emmitting gasses- peat bogs, sulphur springs, decaying litter etc. Remember that the last warming cycle was when we were hunting small animals and eating them in caves.

That UN report says it is likely to be man-made but cannot be stopped. What is wrong with adapting with this unstoppable climate change? Why must we give up our lifestyle for something we cannot stop?

I know the government and energy corporations say that if you replace all your lights with fluorescents that it will save approximately 60% of your energy bill in watts every month. My question goes deeper, if everyone in a major city was to replace all incandescents with fluorescents would the power provider simply continue to produce the same amount of power and just sell it to other power companies in need of extra energy? Also is there any long term environmental impact of throwing away a fluorescent bulb with its chemical coatings versus a simple glass bulb with tungsten core?

I am curious to know if there is a way I can mathematically evaluate my personal contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. For example, driving 10 miles to work and back; how many "greenhouse gas" points? Taking a 10,000km airplane flight: how many points? etc. Is there such a currency?
Thanks in advance!

It makes no sense to sort trash if it is going to be processed into raw material so why is this an issue here? The trash can be in any form and still be suitable to be reduced to basic raw material as good or better than anything found in natural settings. Why does everyone say it isn't so? Its just a matter of good engineering and development.

With all the talk today about global warming I feel inspired to do something about it. Here's the problem...I don't have the money for a hybrid car and a solar powered house. Please tell me the one simple and most effective thing that I can do.

I think that the world's leaders are some idiots.
They have known this for a long time before us, but have pushed it away time after time.
We have gained these problems with the world's population as we are now.
So what do it help to inform us of economising on everything,
when experts say that the earth's population will be almost doubled
within the next 50 years.
Don't you think that its a must, for all the world, that they make laws
that only allow 2 child per family.??

I'd like to hear mixed opinions, so don't answer a certain way to get on my good side. Answer HONESTLY what you think. I know what I believe, but what do you believe, truthfully? What are your concerns, if you have any?
