because the government, especially republicans, don't want you to know or care. They are the ones that think it's just a hoax, when there is obvious evidence of it happening (try being the hottest in millenia, or more CO2 levels than ever). In fact, they even go as far as to say we should emit more CO2 to prevent an ice age!
don't think i'm just bashing republicans, i'm a republican myself, but sometimes i think their conservative practices are very short-sighted

I think nobody understands the consequences of global warming because there is still a raging debate over how much of it is caused by man and whether global warming will be harmful. There is a need for more careful research, by all positions, where interpretation is seperated by fact. Only then can we move forward to understanding the conseuences.

Because it's easier to deny it's happening, even in the face of overwhelming scientific proof, than to face what's needed to fix it.
To the guy below:
Because of the overwhelming scientific evidence, some important Republicans are now on board too:
"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."
James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.
"The overwhelming majority of atmospheric scientists around the world and our own National Academy of Sciences are in essential agreement on the facts of global warming and the significant contribution of human activity to that trend."
Russell E. Train, former environmental official under Presidents Nixon and Ford
"We simply must do everything we can in our power to slow down global warming before it is too late. The science is clear. The global warming debate is over."
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor, California
"Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming."
John McCain, Senator, Arizona
"These technologies will help us become better stewards of the environment - and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change."
President George Bush
The remaining global warming deniers are either driven by money or are conspiracy believers, the people who think we didn't go to the moon.

Well it's mainly because to most people global warming doesn't seem to have a big effect on their lives. But global warming can affect everyone. Mainly people is the cause for this problem. We cause lots of carbon dioxide to reach the atmosphere. This causes sunlight to get trapped in the earth. Fossil fuels, ans gasoline cars are mainly the cause.

The world will not stop turning because of something. Think of peoples dependence on oil, fossil fuels, and other products that emit the smog and whatnot. What would happen if they did away with most of that? We wouldnt have power, transportation, or anything like that. Making the economy even worse, which will just make the world spiral eventually into a h***hole. Sorry to say it....

Until there's clear evidence and proof of global warming no one is going to accept the concept. Records of weather patterns show cycles of warming and cooling so no one accepts the idea of global warming. When over an extended period time weather records indicate a clear pattern of rising heat and insufficient cooling then people will start to believe.

People understand consequences of real things and events.
The global warming farce just isn't worth losing sleep over.
It would be like worrying that pixie's are gonna steal your car.
News flash- they can't drive.

Some people can't visualize long term consequences. They either deny or ignore it so they don't have to refrain from some vice or worry about the consequences. Just like somebody not willing to give up their double bacon cheeseburgers or their pack-a-day smoking habit, some are unwilling to be bothered with energy/resources conservation.

there are people who used to care, such as myself.
but now, after years of observing the self-celebrated ignorance of the masses who don't care, i also no longer care.
i now think that mankind deserves to suffer the consequences of global warming. so i look forward to more disasters.
the only part that will **** me off is that i know once people are affected personally, they will suddenly do the same thing they did with regards to the war in iraq. just like people were suddenly against the war in iraq after first supporting it, people will then suddenly be pro-doing-something-about-global-warming.
but just like in iraq, it will be too late.
in short, to answer your question, most people simply are idiots.
