nope, it's impractical ... the amount of space you need to collect energy compared with how much energy you get makes it pretty clear that it's just not efficient enough.

Since fossile fuels will become more and more expensive in the future there will certainly be a move towards alternative energy sources like solar power or wind power. But I don't think they will be able to produce enough power for the whole world in that way. But in a few decades nuclear fusion should be ready to replace conventional nuclear power plants. Then fusion power plants can produce most of the electricity we need.

I wish it was, gh it is an effective alternative for energy which does no tpollute, and one days worth of sun could provide for 3 months of energy for the enitre world. COmpanies and goverments all over the wordl are not accepting the chaneg nessecary to switch to solar powering the world.

no! solar cannot be used because of availability of sun light, the efficiency of converting light enenergy to electrical energy is very poor, and thirdly the maintenance to clean the solar plate is a tedious job. A whole roof of solar plate will light up only less than 30 bulbs.

I would say No. There are long term toxicity issues associated with solar cells. They are mostly made of Gallium Arsenide in a Silicon matrix, which is toxic to the biosphere. The cells themselves are very fragile and occupy large sections of ground. Just imagine if we had hundreds of millions more of them across the land.

It will be a small part, as will wind.
Right now, the only power source that can replace a large part of fossil fuels is nuclear. That is a better bet for "the next big thing".

NO it is far too expensive and has problems too. I installed a large set in the Ecuador jungle ,there is taking large solar panels and mounting them so the wind will not blow them away, and the led ,acid batteries only last a couple of years etc.
Not a good choice.
