Tire reef off Florida proves a disaster.

We've literally dumped millions of tires in our oceans," said Jack Sobel, an Ocean Conservancy scientist. "I believe that people who were behind the artificial tire reef promotions actually were well-intentioned and thought they were doing the right thing. In hindsight, we now realize that we made a mistake."

How expensive and damaging will cleaning up after the global warming crowd be?

I'm doing ecology and I'm reviewing, just needed a little more information. In the lotic system (rivers and streams) what are the nutrient and oxygen contents, and temperature in different parts of the system. SO basically, which part(s) of a lake or stream would be the warmest, would have the most dissolved oxygen and would have the most nutrients. Your help would be MUCH appreciated.

As ethanol; an alcohol made from veggies like corn; this extra demand could cause a spike in the price. Why would this cause a spike in the price of corn? And why the sudden intrested in ethanol? What value does it have to us?

Last night i was arguing with a friend that I think people use less paper per capita now and it will continue to do so b/c the world is becoming more paperless it seems. For example, i dont recieve any bills or statements in the mail anymore b/c I pay them online and choose not to even have them sent b/c I dont even open them. And of course many other things electronics have replaced that used to be paper such as journals, diaries, letters, ect..

If anyone could provide me a link or something that shows whether we are consuming more or less per capita than in the past, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the weather is going to change so drastically, should we be putting up the alternative sources here in Europe or should we put them in countries that won't change much. If gas is being piped under the Mediterranean from Northern Africa, why not put up panels there and lay power cables under the sea too? Spain is meant to become more desertlike so we could put them up here. If they generate electricity in Germany, surely they will work nicely here and in Italy.

What about wind generators? By how much will wind patterns vary?

I have heard research from scientists that stated that global warming is being blown way out of proportion. They have said that we are not looking at a large enough sample of time in relation to the earth. It has been said that there have been times that the earth has been much warmer than this, and times that it has been much cooler. Basically, the earth goes through waves of temperature shifts and we just tend to be in one of the warming waves right now. What do you think?

Undocumented workers are destroying the environment. California alone has 3 million of them. Each one of them has to flush a toilet at least once aday. And if the guest worker program passes congress then each one will be allowed to drive gasoline burning cars.

Undocumented workers make 300,000 babies a year. After just 20 years those babies will be old enough to make more babies.

I live in drought-stricken Australia and like most people I'm doing everything possible to conserve water. My laundry grey water is being run off into the garden. I've changed to a No Phosphate washing liquid and stopped using fabric softeners. I've heard that vinegar is a good fabric softener and would like to substitute this for the commercial brands. Is it a fabric softener and will it harm my garden if used regularly? Is there anything else that can be used in its place that won't adversely affect my garden?

All the environmental groups have come out AGAINST logging on Federal land. However, when an area gets logged of old trees, new trees are planted.

And since a young forest, composed of growing trees, absorbs carbon dioxide and acts as a sink while mature forests, made up of a mix of various aged trees as well as dead and decaying matter, may be carbon neutral above ground, we can see that younger trees remove more Co2.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_sequestration#Forests

So, trees absorb Carbon dioxide more efficiently when they are younger. So Constant cutting down of older trees and replacing them with new trees is BETTER for removing C02 from the atmosphere.

Meaning that the logging taking place on Federal lands is actually making Federal forests BETTER at removing Carbon Dioxide from the air.

These environmental groups shoudl be THANKING these logging companies. Right?

Is it possible to use Carbon Dioxide as a fuel in a car?
As if it were possible we could work out a way to use the enormous amount of Carbon Dioxide as a fuel and if we found a way to make it produce a harmless product or none we could help on the way to maybe saving the plantet we live on.

If we hooked up everybody that we've ever imagined spinning in their grave in disgust about something they'd oppose (Stalin and modern Russia, everyone's English teacher and current grammar and spelling standards on the Internet, Grandma and your brother's choice for a wife, etc.) how much energy do you think would be generated?

I think we could dispose of nuclear power plants and coal burning plants for a start.

We had global warming in the dinasour age but then an Ice Age. Doesn't this support the cycle theory? I think the ocean warms from underwater eruptions, sending steam into atmosphere, causing high CO2 levels and rain and snow, and then we go through cooling cycle once again.

With the advancements in robotics and autonomous machinery we should build a machine that can dig us an uderground base. See, if it worked like a combination of a shredder and snow blower digging would be easy on the moon because the low gravity would allow us to expell excess dirt into space, we just make sure there is enough energy to expell the excess soil. Then have a series of macines dig a cavern, then overlay the top with solar panels and use silicon photon technology to intensify the energy output. Then once a facitly was built and a registered stabel environment has been maintained for a year, then humans go over with equipment and robots to build a biodome for food and oxygen. Of course that would have to be in the lit part, then a piplene could be built from the pole to supply water from ice, to be used as hydrogen fuel and extra oxygen. Maybe we could find a way to build the materials out of lunar sediment, like make a concrete out of the lunar soil. Do you have an idea?
