Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

There are serious scientific studies that predict that if the world warms, the main ocean current in the atlantic ocean may stop. If that is the case instead of warm water from the tropics moving down to northern Europe would not warm northern Europe anymore, and England and the rest of Northwester Europe will get a lot colder. That is even if global warming warms the whole earth (on average).
There is no way to know if the ocean currents will chagne or stop but many of the models predict that the will. But there is no way of knowing for sure unless it happens.
If parts of the artic ocean melt, currents of cold water could be coming to near England from the north instead of warmer water from the south. That would cool the whole area possibly considerably.
As for the sea level rise, in the medium predictions it is probably not the "end" for England. Most likely changes in the next century are about a meter or less.

Well, if you take into account temperature, economic and social factors, one of the first noticable effects is that Brits are not coming down to Spain as much as they used to. The rental market on the Costa del Sol has been getting bad. Same as the Real Estate. Some people are finding it more comfortable to stay in the UK with its warmer summers than come to Spain and its hotter weather.
Of course, that means less low cost flights coming over and polluting on the way, less people turning on the airconditioning units, renting cars to get around, plugging in digital cameras to recharge them, etc. It also means less people consuming fresh water from our depleted reservoirs (I think we're entering our third drought year running here, heavy rains not withstanding.)
Less real estate operations here mean less construction work and the pollution that causes.
I guess more Brits will be visiting the Lake district or going over to Ireland so they will be eroding the U.K.'s environment, trampling footpaths, littering parks if they're not careful. If this goes on warming up, do you realize Britain might suffer forest fires like California, Portugal and Spain, to name a few?
Funny what far reaching effects a few degrees of temperature can have.
P.S. As to global warming being a con. I've been hearing that we were ruining this earth since I went to school in the 80s-90s, that the rain forests would disappear, acid rain wold melt our cathedrals, so on and so forth. Now, just because we CAN pollute doesn't mean we have to! Does it not make sense to remember tu turn off the lights when you're not in a room, put on an extra jersey instead of cranking up the underfloor heating, use drip irigation in the garden instead of hosing endlessly. If we waste less water and electricity, we can spend the money we save on something else. If we happen to do some good to our environment and for ourselves, so much ther better!

I think I'd be more concerned about the coming ice age. We are about 500 years past due for an ice age. It was warmer 1000 years ago when the Vikings had farms in Greenland, than it is now. We are coming to the end of global warming. The guys in the 70's had it right. Check out the Newsweek article of April 28, 1975.

Truth is, I don't think that anyone really knows either how much or when. Reading the various scientific sites on this is like looking at a kaleidoscope. It keeps changing and leaves a feeling that there is a lot of guesswork going on. So do we buy Eskimo outfits, or deep-sea diving equipment? Or perhaps factor 40 sunbock? Is it 3 or 4 generations from now or is it 3 or 4 years from now? All I know, with certainty , is that durng the course of my last 25 years on this planet, weather cycles in Scotland have become more and more chaotic.

Global warming is a con! Read the papers and you will see that they say this is the WARMEST year since 1861? or whatever! Does it not occur to everyone that perhaps therefore that the weather was just as hot then? When there was NO so called pollution!? And what about the snow in Nepal this winter. The FIRST snow for 60 years!!! Oh my GOD!!! We're entering the ICE AGE!!!
Don't believe the scare mongers! Global warming is a con! It's bullshit. Read the scientific papers and don't listen to the crap that the newspapers and government are spewing out.

well its already effecting the seasons, warm winters hotter summers but dont last that long. bird species dying out because their food ie, catapillars and insects are coming out earlier in the year. costal towns will start to flood in around 30ish years if al gore is right which is probable then the sea will rise 20 metres when the caps melt. oh not to mention more diseases around the world being caried further so will get hit by them as well. bird flu any 1?

Well in the next 50 years many floods will change what the UK looks like and many low lands completly disspaering such as the east coast will probably be gone in less than 50 years as its so flat and low. More bad weather and we cant actually say what WILL happen as we can only predict.
