Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

When you say "we survived the last ice age", remember that "we" were in Africa at the time. North America and Europe didn't survive it as they were under hundreds of feet of ice.

No doubt humanity will survive if the sea rises by 15 feet. But it is unlikely that New York, London or Tokyo will survive.

Scientists have been warning us about global warming since about 1970. Perhaps the message has finally got through and we'll do something about it at last. The people who deny it are in a very small minority.

Global warming is an entirely new thing that our planet has never experienced before on the current scale. No one really knows what will happen, but there is a chance that it could be very bad. It would be in everyone's best interest to live a little greener. Which is about way more than just not driving, btw.

P.S. Snow and cold temps don't mean that gw isn't happening. It screws up the weather in general, doesn't just make it warmer.

Interesting thought witsend. Wonder who was up there driving all those SUVs and burning up the fossil fuel on Mars to cause it's 'global warming' LOL

Ok seriously:

We've been through several cycles of glaciation and subsequent warming in the last few million years (about every 40,000 to 100,000 years, driven by Earth's orbital cycles). The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago so we are in the early inter-glacial phase now (recently the frequency of glaciation has been about 100,000 yrs). So further warming and melting is expected. Unfortunately, sea level will rise as the polar ice and glaciers continue to melt, flooding coastal regions including many of our largest cities. Whether or not our contributions of greenhouse gases will speed things up or not remains to be seen. Volcanoes actually contribute the most greenhouses gases to our atmosphere by far. Two large volcanic eruptions (on the scale of Pompeii and Pinatubo for example) contributed more to greenhouse gases than all of human contributions combined.

You're absolutely right that humans did survive the last ice age here in the US. Many indians (usually called paleoindians) already lived in this country at that time. The earliest seem to date back to about 18,000 years ago. Here's a link to a site that talks about them.

The Ohio river now marks the southern extent of glaciation in the US.

Research on Mars shows that there was once life on Mars...but there isn't any now because there's no atmosphere.

There's a hole in our ozone layer (causing the global warming), if the hole keeps growing, which it will...there will be no atmoshphere and nothing on this planet will be able to survive.

The thing with global warming is, summers are longer etc so some things are harder to grow. The ice caps are melting, meaning polar bears have nowhere to live and will eventuall die out, and that the surrounding countries will eventually go under water!

If you ask me....Mars is a warning on what's gonna happen to us! But who cares right? We'll all be dead!!! I'll keep recycling though, I won't smoke and I'll walk more ofter. That's the best I can do for my great great great great great great great great great great great great grand children!

This might be hard reading, but wikipedia is a good place to start.

We don't want to go back to living like people did in the last ice age. (People left Africa about 80,000 years ago. The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago.)

Global warming is going to kill a lot of crops. Also, the sea level will rise, which will drown a lot of towns and cities on the seacoast.

There will be a lot more extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados.

I dont know that 'we' came out of the last ice age so well...Neanderthal and friends might not agree with you.
Sure we think that they are prehistoric but back then they were the modern man....Could we be some futuristic society's prehistoric creatures?

P.s. If hurricane katrina is an example of surviving I am afraid to imagine that on a large scale!

Listen to me:

You're probably a great kid. However, do NOT become biologically successful. Don't drive a car. Don't make everyone else pay for your rent (Welfare). Learn to spell. Learn to read. Don't screw up our kids' standardized test scores because you're the one tiny mongrel who can't define "showcase" or "collection".

I've had it. I've absolutely had it. You owe me an apology.

It's okay though, I'll probably move away and forget all about you. No...

No.

I forgive... I never forget.

There is no such thing as global warming. It's just a money-making scam. The human race as a whole tends to freak out over things like this, and that's when ideas sell.
