Top down. Aviator shades on. Radio cranked up as loud as it will go. It's almost dusk. There's nothing in front of you except for gravel and yellow lines. You stop at a lone gas station, buy fries from a greasy diner, and get back in the car. You're with your two best friends, driving for an end-of-summer trip to the beach and generally having the time of your life. Because you know things as you know it are ending soon. What's on your playlist for this kind of scenario?

I like Coldplay, Jose Gonzalez, Joss Stone, Justin Timberlake, Lily Allen, Maroon 5, Nada Surf, Oasis, Phantom Planet, Snow Patrol, The Beatles, The Fray, Vanessa Carlton. It might have to do with summer, friends, or life in general. New bands/artists would be great! No rap please. Thanks :]

Example: We Will Rock You, the musical based on songs by Queen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Will_Rock_You_%28musical%29

I have ideas, but they all reflect my [not so] hidden love for cheesy musicals, and would probably be like a rock based Sound of Music, hehe.

What band would you choose?
Which songs by them would you pick?
What would the musical be about?
et cetera

I ask because I'm listening to "Forming" by the Germs and it is absolutely fantastic for being a bunch of punk kids with most likely less than proffesional instruments, definately less than professional skill level, some good old fashion attitude, a garage, and a crappy tape recorder. And quite impressive lyrics! What a great single.

Best debut album is maybe Pink Flag by Wire or the Velvet Underground & Nico. But then again maybe it's the Modern Lovers. Or The Clash. If you count Electric Warrior as Bolan's debut as T.Rex (instead of the old Tyranosaurus Rex) then that'll be a candidate.

But I'll say the Ramones Ramones was the best debut album and for now "Another World" by Richard Hell & the Voidoids.

I'm listening to Classic Rock radio on the internet and all the songs I grew up listening to in the mid-80's are considered classic. Can you give me some examples of what make you feel old---thnx!!!

Maybe it's because I'm a mindless bafoon, but I like these simple "What's your favorite _____?" questions. The problem is I couldn't care less about what most of the questions are asking about. So here's my attempt, along with the last Ramones question, to rectify that for anyone else like me out there.

Right now I might say "White Light/White Heat" and the debut. But "Heroin" would be a close second, "I'm Waiting For The Man" a close third, and then too many other to start naming. What a great band though huh?

...whistling along with the birds on 'Cirrus Minor', making clicking sounds with your mouth on 'Scarecrow', making tick-tock sounds on 'Time', or making weird chirping and whistling noises on 'Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict'?
Or am I the only one that does this?
If you're kooky as well, then what's your specialty?

From the painful expierence we had last time of that awful song from my last question, I offer you this Across the Universe, by Rufus Wainwright

It's not as good as the original, but I think it does it justice.

What's your favorite Beatles cover?

Does anyone know the title and artist of the song that goes like: "if I knew then what I know now, i'de still take a ride on the yellowbrick road..." I think the title is yellowbrick road and I heard it last week, but im having trouble finding the artist. Its should be in the rock/alternative category. Thanks everyone

I guess it was at some recent Grammy (I don't follow with stuff like that) but my friend sent me the link.... I really didn't like it.... (not to be mean or anything)
But I do love the fact that they used Velvet Revolver instead of some other band.

What do you think?

Woo-hoo...Happy Friday!

I don't know about you, but I definitely have music in my collection that is made for Fridays - it's fast-paced, energetic and it's stuff that just makes me happy when listening to it. Two examples that are immediately coming to mind are Urge Overkill and 311.

How about you? Do you have songs and albums that you always play to celebrate the end of the week and kick-start your weekend?

Does anyone else think it would be really cool if some unknown rock band suddenly popped up out of no where with leather jackets, long hair, melodic singing, and killer guitar solos. I'm tired of sissy bands like Fall Out Boy and Foo Fighters that are changing younger peoples perception of what rock music should be.(no offense if you like these bands) It's almost like teenagers don't think catchy music is cool anymore.(they're rebelling against it or something)
