Woo-hoo...Happy Friday!
I don't know about you, but I definitely have music in my collection that is made for Fridays - it's fast-paced, energetic and it's stuff that just makes me happy when listening to it. Two examples that are immediately coming to mind are Urge Overkill and 311.
How about you? Do you have songs and albums that you always play to celebrate the end of the week and kick-start your weekend?

Friday mornings are a little more mellow, something acoustic or soul based. By noon, Led Zepplin will be on CD. By 4, AC/DC Whole lotta Rosie, Let there be Rock and Hells Bells to start the weekend.

That's funny you should ask. Every morning I turn on the radio in my kitchen while making coffee and breakfast. When I turned the radio on 5 minutes ago the Steppenwolf song 'Sookie Sookie' was playing on one of the classic rock stations!
But lately I've been fanatical about downloading obscure hard rock and prog bands of the 70's from at least a dozen really cool blogs.
The first thing I'll be playing tonight once I get home from work will be 'The Garden Shed' by the band 'England', then I'll spin some more of my recent downloads / burns while I down a few nice cold beers! Then it's off to the bar for Friday night jams!
This has been my Friday night ritual for some time now.

It varies, but right now I have a nice mix of Bluegrass, Dixieland Jazz, and Irish Drinking Songs. It's a happy day, and these genres will give you that aesthetic.
Right now, I'm listening to "The Battle of New Orleans."

I always feel conflicted listening to this song though, my family is British.
SOOKIE: It's a great song. I was listening a version by a band called Arizona Smoke Review. It's a lot faster. If the guitar was distorted, you would think it was rock.

I've always been a random/shuffle girl myself, so whatever comes up I take.
But I do like things with a happy beat - Firestarter by Prodigy is a good one (It's also helpful when cleaning the house, too - lol!). KMFDM gets me going (specifically, the Nihil CD).
I'd love to see what else you get. I've had a rrrrreeeeeaaaallllllllyyy long week this week. I'm exhausted and I could use a kick in the pants. :)
****
LOL! I've missed my R&P friends! What a pain when work gets in the way of the important stuff, like Y!A.

It's usually just whatever I'm in the mood for throughout the day ~ it can change every few hours.
Right now, I've just started working my way through the back-catalogue of Blackmore's Night.
But I have to go out in 30 mins, and by the time I get back my mum will be home, so there will probably be no more music until I put my CDs on in bed :(
{My mum doesn't like most of my musical tastes!}

Friday is my classic rock day lol. I play Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, and Tom Petty. Its just a little change of pace for me to enter the weekend.
Edit: Yes, Sarah C, I love Runnin' Down a Dream!
Edit: Yeah Sookie, no screamo on friday haha. I like to think of friday as the 'mellow' day.

The greatest album to get the weekend off to a rip-roaring start would have to be Daisy Chainsaw - Eleventeen. Not only is the music insane but that is the name of one of the tracks. The track below is Pink Flower. I miss this group as much as Jawbox and Quicksand if that tells you anything.

On Friday nights we go to a small bar and listen to some really good music by some local boys. The lead man (Greg Yates) played with David Alan Coe several years ago.

Even though Fridays are like any other day when you're a domestic darling - I do find myself leaning towards energetic, fast-paced music on the weekends.
One favorite - The Walkmen "The Rat"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKyu0In9nzw
Maybe even some kid friendly ska from the Aggrolites...

If I were heading out to a bar this evening it would be pretty great to hear some Black Keys:

I think my only real Friday song is Arcade Fire's "Rebellion Lies". Not sure why, but I think it's the way the song builds to a climax and creates a sense of anticipation that gets me. Or maybe that's just me being weird. :)

Usually if I'm getting ready to go out or whatever, I'll be listening to something upbeat and poppy, maybe something like Nada Surf, or else something to get my blood pumping, like "You Think I Ain't Worth a Doll" by Queens of the Stone Age.
