Does anyone else think it would be really cool if some unknown rock band suddenly popped up out of no where with leather jackets, long hair, melodic singing, and killer guitar solos. I'm tired of sissy bands like Fall Out Boy and Foo Fighters that are changing younger peoples perception of what rock music should be.(no offense if you like these bands) It's almost like teenagers don't think catchy music is cool anymore.(they're rebelling against it or something)

well let me tell you guys - I'm from New York, and the older guys (people around 30-50 years old) ONLY listen to 70s and 80s rock. And surprise surprise, when I went to college from 1998-2004, the ONLY music I heard in the college bars was 80s rock (sweet child of mine, your love by outfield, etc.). Not just that, but all over northern NJ, Long Island, and wherever you go outside of Manhattan its all you hear. Its like Cuba - because of the embargo, they are still driving around in 50's Chevys!! Its just like that up here - people just listen to 20+ year old music because with the sole exception of Bon Jovi, no rockers have been making anything new! Its like we all live in a time warp up here. Grunge (Nirvana) is NEVER played anywhere, anytime around here. We don't want to hear that depressing garbage. I'm 26 yrs old, and I grew up listening to rap/r&b and pop my whole life until college. Around 1991 is when I started listening to music on my own (I was 11 yrs old), and I remember hearing Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and I was like - how do these people listen to this stuff??? Only once I went to college did I realize that a year or two before I started listening to music did all of these amazing bands exist! I mean, you never hear stuff like Guns n' Roses, the Outfield, AC/DC, Journey anymore. Nothing even compares. Yet everybody here still LOVES that music. From Boston to DC, we love the 70s and 80s rock. Now I'm not saying bring big hair or the ridiculous costumes back, but what I am saying is bring the passion back into rock music (in my opinion, rock doesnt even exist right now - "fall out boy" is alternative - not rock - "five for fighting" and "the fray" is a whole new genre of music. It is not rock. I respect "boys like girls" and "panic at the disco" though - I think they are great for their target audience - I would love to party to that music if I were at a high school party. But I feel the 25+ year old people out there are now getting screwed. Makes you wonder why Bon Jovi went down to Nashville, huh? The SOUTH is the only place where you can find a man playing a guitar thats over the age of 25!!!!! From TV commercials selling samsungs new cell phone (jukebox hero) to peter griffen from Family Guy singing to Journey's Dont Stop Believin, people LIKE the 80s rock! Bring back the music (minus the hair and tight pants lol)!

BRING BACK ROCK!

Hell yes!

A few bands seem to try. Wolfmother aren't too bad. But I agree with what you're saying about a lot of the music now, so over it. A lot of the modern rock stuff isn't too bad, but it would be good to see some really pure headbangin-ish stuff.

And the whole random hell-80s rock band popping up out of nowhere? Hilarious! Absolute gold idea. I feel a movie coming on...

I agree that music (rock) has moved away from the good ole days of TALENTED musicians putting everything they have into it. Anyone who picks up a guitar for the first time today can be playing the garbage that's being passed off as "rock" by tomorrow. Drop D tuning, flat fingering mutated chords. The reason those smokin' guitar solos of yesteryear are absent from todays "rock," is because there's few (if any) modern day guitarists who can actually play. Today it's all studio gimmicks and screaming.

I do at least one day a week... my computer and MP3 player both have 4-5 hours of great 80s music. Worked for Huey Lewis & The News for 3 tours !!

Stop living in the past.
And anyway, the 80's are the home of hair metal, and if that ever comes back, then may God have mercy on us all.
Seriously, i'd rather listen to Enya than hair metal. That has to be the lowest point music has ever reached in the history of everything. Ever.
And yes, i do realise that there is more to 80's rock than just hair metal.
Although I am happy to hear someone calling the Foo Fighters sissy. I'm sick of people talking about how awesome they are. And i'm not even a rocker, it still just pisses me off. At least Fall Out Boy don't pretend to be a hardcore rock band - they know they're sissies. Well, at least i hope they do - it's quite hard to miss.

amen. Bands suck now like Fall out boy or even the worst song in the world Hey There Delilah. At least in the 80s, bands had talent. It is very sad (and I agree) that kids are being brought up on crap like plain white t's. I completely agree with u on everything u mention here.

Did 80's music leave? Looks alive and well to me. Keep up the good work dude. They don't make balls music anymore do they. Don't worry, we're the first hardcore generation. Moshing and headbangers. YESSSSSSSS!
