I'm just saying that when I hear the Beatles on the radio, whats coming out of my speakers isn't rock. It's about as rock as NSYNC was. Sure they played their own instruments.....whatever! The final product is POP!

I think you make a valid point. However, I don't think bands should be classified. Lot's of bands seem to be in the gray area between genres.

During the time period that they came out in, they were considered to be the heaviest rock band out. They are definitely without a doubt rock. Just because a band isn't heavy metal doesn't mean they are pop, there is a huge middle area.

Also... The creation of true ROCK music involves the use of a guitar which the Beatles DID use in each and every one of their songs (Ex: Day Tripper). Name me one song in which Justin Timberlake plays the guitar? Nsync-pop, Beatles-rock... get it?

Ok. Assuming this isn't just another "The Beatles are Overrated/ Let's get a Rise" thread, I think a few things are the source of this thread:

-You probably weren't around when The Beatles were still doing their thing as a band. Thus, in a 2007 mind-set, some of their music seems trite to your ears.

-"rock" as we know it now, wasn't even really a *term*....until The Beatles turned it into an art form by the mid-60s.

-The songs you listed are, of course, most of their *early* work, when they were still writing boy-meets-girl love tunes.

-Yesterday? Yes. Rock bands are allowed to write softer songs. That is nothing new. Even Metallica went soft. Guess your definition of rock is Just hard rock?

-Have you even heard songs like 'Helter Skelter, Yer Blues, Tomorrow Never Knows, or A Day in the Life?
They did progress from cute songs to more introspective thoughtful songs in very short amount of time.

I don't know what your trying to say. Do you think the Beatles were a country band or something? Are you comparing today's rock sound with the 1960's rock sound? I mean seriously! This question is like "Why do they consider Willy Nelson to be country?" "Why do they consider the sky to be blue?"

yes they are rock...but you also have to consider what year they came out.

What do expect to be played during the early 1960's. they were pushing the envelope with their music. even their little bowl haircuts were considered eccentric.

all of the crap you more than likely consider "rock" evolved from what they played.

I guarantee 9 out of 10 of the bands you listen to were influenced by the music the Beatles played!

Pop music in the sixties didn't sound anything like "The Beatles" so how else would you classify them? Back then there was rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, classical, and that's about all.

Uhhh because the style of music was trippy, slightly distored, and was just odd and 70's rock, and even todays rock is exactally like that. If you don't think the bettles are rock, and you're a rock fan, your crazy!!!

Because they played rock'n'roll (shortened to rock) you narrow minded moron. Rock music is not just mindless grungy noises you know. I suggest you listen to I Want To Hold Your Hand again on a good loud system. It has one of the most powerful rock intros ever put on record.

because they rock!!! Seriously, rock in the 60's was more pure and sounded much different than what is considered rock today.

I you serious? you need a education. These songs are rock and roll. I think you are being slightly narrow minded of your definition of rock. I agree, that the songs you have put here are not their more rocky songs, well apart from she loves you, that certainly rocks. Its the way they sing them that makes them rock in my opinion.
