International rock/pop with occasional Irish, dance or blues flavor. Their work is sometimes politically motivated, especially early on, but they can do a pop song about anything and sell it. Some people think they are sellouts or wimps for their commercial success, and they can think that down at the pub broke all day while Bono, Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. are cashing their paychecks.

In my opinion U2 is a rock band that writes/performs music that has purpose and meaning. "Pride (In the Name of Love)" is a song about Martin Luther King Jr. "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" is a song about the turmoil in their homeland of Ireland. Countless other songs of theirs are very spiritual in content. And they perform with such passion. Of course, they have a playful side too, check out "Discotech". Good dance music. Hope that's helped some.

U2 is in the mainstream category. A little overrated. Naming all their songs would be a headache. But I recently gained some respect for Bono when he contributed well to Across the Universe.

I think the technical name for it is 'crap irish rock garbage'.
They have too many songs to name. Go to amazon.com and look up all of their albums if you want to check out their songs.
