Well depends if you like 'classic' heavy metal, or 'death' heavy metal.

For classic I'd say anything by Iron Maiden, or AC/DC. For death Slipknot. Always rules. But then again, it depends on your tastes. A good all rounder is Iron Maiden. My favourite album is Rock in Rio. The songs are live, and its double disk^^

I haven't listened to many heavy metal albums, I guess, but I still like Black Sabbath's first album quite a bit. And if Led Zeppelin is still considered heavy metal, I'd go with their fourth album (ZOSO) as being the most metallic of their albums, though Led Zep III is my favorite of theirs. If Nirvana counts, I'd go with Nevermind.
