How many subs go into bad area schools, get treated very badly by the staff and kids and then go back when called?
If you do, then you are a masochist. I don't know about you, but I love myself because NO ONE ELSE is going to look out for my well-being, right????

I went to terrible Brooklyn school the other day and was treated very rudely by the staff and by the kids whose teacher I feel so sorry for. That was the worst bunch of kids I ever had the misfortune of baby-sitting. I simply DO NOT GO BACK to schools where the kids run the show. Know what I mean? What ever happened to discipline? What ever happened to suspension? What ever happened to FOLLOW THE RULES OR ELSE???

Yes, it is abusely expensive to live in NYC but I handle my LITTLE money very well. I sub 2 to 3 days during the week and math tutor high school kids at home on SAT/SUN as an independent contractor. I don't need to sub everyday thanks to my weekend position with one of the best NYC math tutoring companies. If anybody is interested in working for a great math tutoring company, get in touch with me. Of course, you must have a B.A. or B.S. in mathematics.

Anyway, how many subs are smart enough to realize when they are in a bad school and never go back? I am waiting to hear from you.

Thanks,
NYCSUB

this boy in my class broke his hand and all the teachers let him do his schoolwork on a laptop...except one...my math teacher, who wanted him to write with his hand,so the boy kept saying "but you wouldn't write with a broken hand would you sir?" and he kept repeating that over and over until my teacher went up to him, pointed his finger agressivley in his face and said "don't you dare say i wouldn't do that, look at this(pointing to his hand) i broke it and HAD to write with it so don't you say I wouldn't do it!"

Why did my teacher react like that?

Consider these hypothetical scenarios. A student who gets either a bad grade from a teacher or a write up from a teacher decides to falsely accuse the teacher of sexually assaulting them. There is an investigation, during which time the teacher is suspended without pay. Could the teacher sue the student (or his parents) for libel?

Consider this scenario, suppose a student who gets a bad grade from a teacher or is given a write up, decides to stab that teacher. The teacher survives but has to get expensive surgeries to get better and still has to live in a wheelchair after the assualt. Could that teacher sue the student for compensatory damages for the medical bills and or punitive damages for never getting to walk again?

I am a 25-year-old sub teacher who works mostly at high schools. I have even been mistaken for a student at an elementary school before. Every day I get mistaken for a student several times, by students and staff. Do any other subs get this?

I am trying to incorporate Love and Logic in my classroom. This is largely about responsibility of one's own actions and often includes "rules for the teacher". This allows students to see that teachers are held to standards to and also have a model. Love and Logic also uses positive phrases such as "I will be able to line you up when you are quiet" rather than "You can only line up if you are not talking". Please let me know what you think of these, if I should add some or change any.

I teach first grade

I will treat you with respect.
I will make sure you are safe.
I will be fair.
I will do my best to help you learn.

Is is legal according to state and federal law for school districts or school principals to distribute a list of each teacher's free and reduced lunch students for use in determining students to target for state testing under No Child Left Behind? What about for determining which students to tutor so that NCLB numbers are better on state testing? I have found my state's policy as well as the USDA's policy online, but both are ambiguous, stating that a LEA can use the information for participation in school programs. If this practice is in violation of state or federal law, how can I report it anonymously?

She does like a 15 minute lecture every week, and that's after she makes all of us summarize the chapter out loud for the first half of the class. I don't know whether or not to talk to the principal about it or not. Should I just let it go?

Dont even mind the badly behaved ones
Love the way they are always full of fun and energy

Summer holidays are like 2 months long!
What are the downsides?

Also I was thinking Of doing

Sound Ok?

I was wondering what do you do during your work day, your job duties? Do you like your job? I know it's different at different schools and different places, I was just wondering what other people are doing out there? I am thinking of applying for a position in my town, but I'm looking for other peoples opinions as well. Thanks!

Did your teacher ever gave you and your class an assignment about reading a novel with more than 100 pages or more?

If so, do you think it's right? I'm asking this because no matter how many novels you read, you cannot record word by word or remember them exactly as they are. (Unless you have that ability) And also, no matter how many novels you read in your life, will you be able to read them when you die?

Will you be able to REMEMBER or RECITE or DECIPHER them word by word and remember the lessons??? Will it matter in the after life?

Shouldn't you be doing something that is important and will last eternally? Because you're only a soul in that body of yours and you will still going to die anyway...

Teachers should TEACH (that's their job right?) kids the most important things and that will help them in their own jobs in their life and afterlife.

Practice backward problem solving. Identify a teaching/learning problem in your own classroom. What would you like to see happen? (identify the ideal solution). Now describe enabling tasks to make the ideal a reality.

I am teaching Adults as part of a certificate program. I have guaranteed enrollment because people who are taking this class need to attend my course, but that does not mean that they want to be there or have any interest in what I am talking about.

I am doing everything I can to make the topic interesting and use all the techniques to make my vocal delivery interesting, but about 1/3 of the class seems to be bored and not paying attention. They are clock watching just counting down the minutes to the end of the class.

Should I be concerned about these students or just ignore them and teach to the people who are interested? How does your teacher respond to people who are not interested in what he/she has to say?

I don't mean to be rude but my science teacher is very selective about her students she treats very badly those who look uninterested. I sometime think about stiking up for those kids because there not bad kids at all it's just their parents don't give them the helping hand they need and the teachers' attitude weighs them down even more. Should those kids should be treated different from the others just because of their apperarance of their lack of interest ? Should a teacher be so selective about students and have prefereance above others? I ask myself another question, should I shouldn't I help them? Nobody else has and frankly nobody else will if I don't.

P.S. Should I talk to my teacher and dialogate about the situation or will she be stubborn enough not to answer?

I'm a college student and I didn't go to first half of the class today. But I knew I have a quiz/test in second of the class, so I went to take a test. Professor was PISSED and told me I might fail the class.
What...? This was my first absent, and I've always been a good student. I was late for the class a few times, but I wasn't VERY late. Also, my grade so far is aroun B/B+, which isn't bad at all.

Was she serious? I do think I'm a hard working student.

So, do you guys think my teacher is just crazy or am I doing something wrong?
