How many subs go into bad area schools, get treated very badly by the staff and kids and then go back when called?
If you do, then you are a masochist. I don't know about you, but I love myself because NO ONE ELSE is going to look out for my well-being, right????

I went to terrible Brooklyn school the other day and was treated very rudely by the staff and by the kids whose teacher I feel so sorry for. That was the worst bunch of kids I ever had the misfortune of baby-sitting. I simply DO NOT GO BACK to schools where the kids run the show. Know what I mean? What ever happened to discipline? What ever happened to suspension? What ever happened to FOLLOW THE RULES OR ELSE???

Yes, it is abusely expensive to live in NYC but I handle my LITTLE money very well. I sub 2 to 3 days during the week and math tutor high school kids at home on SAT/SUN as an independent contractor. I don't need to sub everyday thanks to my weekend position with one of the best NYC math tutoring companies. If anybody is interested in working for a great math tutoring company, get in touch with me. Of course, you must have a B.A. or B.S. in mathematics.

Anyway, how many subs are smart enough to realize when they are in a bad school and never go back? I am waiting to hear from you.

Thanks,
NYCSUB

Well, as a current teacher and former sub in a school division that had rougher schools than in NYC and had the two worst middle schools in the state, I can say sometimes the kids need a sub who is not afraid of the students, teachers, or principals. Sometimes you have to do unorthrodox methods to get order. You have to beat children at the games that they play. You can never just give up. Do your best. If a principal lets the students run the school, then 9 times out of 10, that principal will not be principal at that school for long. I have seen some of the worst students I have worked for a few years ago earn full scholarships to college. The students may not appreciate you now, but they will appreciate you later. Some children realize that they were wrong for acting up for you and thank you for being so hard on them.

A ghetto is a place the place rather some human beings of an identical ethnicity (or now and lower back sexuality) stay, so if human beings residing in a ghetto circulate to an identical college, i think that makes it a ghetto college.

As a teacher you should no there are no bad kids. Period. They are as bad as we teach them and allowed them to be. On Oprah was a nice show about inner city and suburb schools. You can try to find it and see it for yourself. Difference was enormous. Like a motel on highway and 6 stars hotels in Dubai. Paint falling down from the walls, ceiling falling down... On the other side Olympic pools, gyms, high-tech classrooms...
And then you ask yourself why are they behaving badly.
But good for you not going back there. They will not miss anything.
