this boy in my class broke his hand and all the teachers let him do his schoolwork on a laptop...except one...my math teacher, who wanted him to write with his hand,so the boy kept saying "but you wouldn't write with a broken hand would you sir?" and he kept repeating that over and over until my teacher went up to him, pointed his finger agressivley in his face and said "don't you dare say i wouldn't do that, look at this(pointing to his hand) i broke it and HAD to write with it so don't you say I wouldn't do it!"

Why did my teacher react like that?

He's burnt out. He needs to get out of teaching because you can't abandon compassion and be an effective teacher.

He could just be a mean teacher, but a more likely explanation is...

He was probably having a bad day. The student was being at least a little disrespectful. Perhaps the math teacher would have preferred him to write with his other non-broken hand. Math is a more difficult subject to do on a laptop than other subjects (considering all the mathematical symbols that may not be found on a standard keyboard). Also, perhaps the teacher felt using a laptop would give the student with a broken hand an unfair advantage over the other students. Does he allow students to use calculators? Does he require that students show each step in a computation? Perhaps the math teacher felt it would be unfair to let one student use a laptop (and thus a calculator) and give only the answers to the math problems, while the other students would have to do all their computations by hand and show every step of the work.

It sound like the math teacher did react rather unprofessionally and without much compassion, but the student wasn't behaving very respectfully, either. All of us are human; we all have our faults; teachers are no exception.

Unfortunately it seems like your math teacher has had some bad incidents during his childhood. If that bitterness is still there to the point that he's taking his past hardships out on his students, then that is cause for the student to go above his teacher and either talk to the principal, another teacher, or counselor.Teachers don't have the right to keep students hostage in a classroom against what's good for their health, or for any other reason. It is immoral, and if anything happens to that student and there are witnesses to the teacher's immorality, than the teacher will be at fault. But the student has to remind themselves that the teacher is not their mom or dad. They are not chained to their desk. So, in my opinion the student should've at that point reported the teacher. I only feel sorry for the boy if he is easily intimidated by people of official standing.

PS: The teacher needs therapy. And maybe to get laid.

The students will teach the teachers. When a teacher tells something that is wrong it is up to the student to correct the teacher and what student will sit there and allow a teacher to preach falsehoods anyway? NONE! I know when I was in school it was up to the teacher to have an answer for EVERYTHING and if he failed he had BEST not come back to class for he would be hung in effigy. Peace y'all

Perhaps the math teacher was not informed that the student had broken his hand and thought the student was lying. Was it the student's laptop or was it the schools laptop? Is there a rule that says that students aren't supposed to be on the laptops? If that is the case, then it might have been that the teacher didn't know what to do so he put aside common sense to cover his butt.

Possibility 1: He's an @$$.

Possibility 2: He was having a rough day. Teachers have to put up with a bunch of sh!t. Kids don't make it any easier on them by fighting, yelling, cussing, not doing school/homework, talking back, complaining, etc. He probably just had his fill for the day.

what's the difference if he tries to write with the other hand instead of using a laptop?

Sounds like your friend was trying to get some sympathy and got a little too cocky and it backfired in his face. I'm sure your teacher heard it after the first time he said it.

I personally would make him write with his other hand. No one else gets to use a laptop.

What did kids do before laptops? Sounds like the type that'd sue the school for trying to make the kid be tough.

What do kids with no hands do? Birth defects or deformed fingers?

Because he isn't a good teacher and doesn't respect his students. He seems really bitter and really stressed out about his own person problems in life, so he takes it out aggressively with his students. (maybe not immediately, but his patience is definitely short).

If he gets this way a lot, go to your school's office and talk to the Dean about your aggressive teacher and how he snaps at his students unfairly. If it continues or gets worse, talk to the Dean and report him again.

He reacted in such a manner because no one stops to think what we did before there were laptops. Broken bones have been around as long as humans but technology of the laptop caliber has only been available for a small period of time. The point is that I had a broken hand once and I had to write with it so what makes you better than me. If I did it so can you. Remember, that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger and builds character......something which is greatly lacking these days.....I wonder if we should blame the technology?

Probably because he went through the same torture. He probably thinks that if he was able to go through with it, then so should your classmate. Also, does this classmate of yours have any previous mistakes or annoying behaviour? Like whining, being a baby? Or over-whining about the pain? He's an adult so he's probably gone through much more pain than he probably has (or at least, that's what he's thinking) and it's only frustrating hearing people complain about it. I hope I helped.
