I have tutored in the past, but I tutored a middle schooler only a year below me and now I am supposed to tutor a 5th grader on Monday in reading and penmanship. Are there any teachers, parents or fellow tutors who can help? Any websites and/or personal experience could really help. I would greatly appreciate any help that you can give.

I want to know how to get my P.E teacher to really like me. We get on really well in school, she did loads to help my schools fashion show and shes really kind to me. I've had 2 replies to emails, but none since - i believe her when she says she doesnt check her emails often or reply often, but how can i get her to like me?

By the way, I'm not a sad suck-up. I've got my P.E GCSE next year and want to get on with ther cos shes kind and i will need extra help to achieve a good grade. :)

I am giving private tutorials at home and my friends are telling me that I am charging too little, considering the time I am putting in it and the high quality of my lessons (and my academic background). I decided to follow their advice, informed my students, and raised my fee.

But now I feel extremely guilty and unhappy. It just doesn't feel right. Not that my students are poor (because they can afford it). But because I feel that I am becoming greedy.

I can't take my word either. I don't want people to start taking me for granted because I can't seem to make up my mind. What should I do? Believe me, I am not earning that much. But for some reason, I feel so guilty asking for a raise.

stifle their emotions, but this is class and the 1st grade kids are there to learn.
The 1st grade teacher I'm observing just looked at the girl and said nothing.
She is an excellent teacher, very disciplined and structured, and she provides a great learning environment.
Is this the best way to handle it?
I would have liked her to have said something positive but deflecting, rather than pointedly be silent, but what would that be?
I want to be a pre-K teacher, is there something that would be appropriate for a pre-K teacher to say that might not work by first grade?
Is there a listing somewhere of appropriate punishments and rewards for a pre-K class? Losing recess time and sitting alone during lunchtime, as well as sitting in a chair in time-out for 5 minutes are about the only ones I know, besides calling out a student's name and shaking my head or putting my finger to my lips for quiet.

Much appreciated!

is it just about having a knack for teaching special children?

The first one is at an alternitive school (kid's that have been thrown out of public school for various reasons). I would be teaching middle school L.A. Summers off, tuition reinbersment, low teacher student ratio, paraprofessionals, and $31,000.

The second one is for middle school aged children with severe and profound disabilities. Year round position, low teacher student ratio, tuition reinbersment, paraprofessionals and $45,000.

My major issue is that I like haveing summers off but the more money sounds nice also. I've never worked with "troubled" teens (I dont have a problem with it either) but I have worked with the severe and profound population. So, what would you do?
