Having been involved with mentoring (from both sides of the desk) I think it is a great idea. The only potential pitfall is that when the mentor is gone and no longer has influence and relevant ideas the person-mentored can sometimes be tagged as being a part of a way of doing things that should be eliminated.

Mentoring for new teachers is great, well hell mentoring in general is great! The only problem is that you need to find people that are actually interested in helping out the person they are mentoring and that they aren't doing it for the extra supplement that the schools generally give for this program. I worked at a school where everyone wanted to be a mentor but no one actually mentored. Very discouraging when that happens.

Do you mean for new teachers? If so, then I agree with it. There are a lot of things that college doesn't teach you about being a teacher. Even student teaching doesn't actually prepare you for having your own class. I think that mentoring is a very good idea.

Can't beat it if you find the right mentor.

alway having a buddy friend to look up to other than your parents or legal guardians or siblings. and you can tell your mentor things you wouldn't ordinarily discuss with your family.

Can't give an opinion on something that is undefined. What are you referring to?
