In my opinion:
Catholic schools in the United States provide a very good moral and religious base for children. As a rule they are also safer than public schools.
Educationally, most of them are above average. Although some are exceptionally good and a very few are bad. Your school or the diocese should have some test scores for comparison.
In general, Catholic schools do a good job with average and above average kids.
However the resources of most Catholic schools in the United States are limited. If students need extra attention due to being way over or way under average, then their needs may not be properly met.
With love in Christ.

Which Catholic schools are you refering to?
My 4 kids attended Catholic Schools through High School, none have ever been in any "serious" trouble and have experienced academic success (ages range from 21-29 now).
Proffesionaly all are doing well; I do recall LOT'S of complaints from them in their childhood with respect to the "restrictive rules" in Catholic school but i cannot argue against the outcome. I am a single Dad of 4 and realized the key to any childs success in school is the involvement of parents with the kids and the school. This is mandatory in the Catholic schools but also works in public schools (just doesn't seem to be mandatory in public schools).
Good luck!

I attended Catholic school from first grade through high school. The curriculum was different from what my friends were getting in public school. My parents also felt it was important for my religion to be part of my education. The teachers were very dedicated to their jobs. Parents were always willing to help out. However, the resources to help students who need extra support wasn't readily available which is one reason that I might not send my child to Catholic school.

My daughter-in-law did her student teaching in both public and Catholic schools in Illinois. She said that when she had children they would absolutely go to Catholic school even though we are not of that faith. She said the education was better, the teaching staff more dedicated, the students far more disciplined, the parental support far greater, the whole atmosphere of the Catholic school lent itself to a far better learning experience for the students.

Public Schools you worry about the quality of the education, overcrowded classrooms and violence...
Catholic Schools, it's mostly smaller class size, more one on one teaching for kids, and they teach kids about religion and tap into their own spirituality. That is what in my opinion kids need now they don't necessarily need to be Catholic but as long as they believe in a higher being it can help them when making difficult decisions in life.
