Why do teachers give kids a piece of candy as a reward? Is it because it is an easy thing knowing that all kids like and will do just about anything for candy. Could teachers give out something else other than food? Would this require too much imagination or thought?

it looks like Detroit teachers may be headed for a strike, i know that they've done this before since the law forbade them to,but now it looks like their employer is not going to allow them to do it. Superintendant Coleman has said he will stay up all night signing forms to punish striking teachers

I am going to apply to the program Teach For America. Can anyone tell me what it was like teaching in an urban area through this program? I have only ESL teaching experience in South Korea where the kids were very well behaved and my classroom sizes were small. My friend just graduated with a masters degree in elementary education and he's looking for a teaching job. He's only licensed in the state of MA for right now. But I was wondering if anyone has any kind of advice for someone just starting out in the teaching world? He's sent tons of letters and resumes and applications out and has only heard back from one school district. Any advice or any leads I could pass on to him would be greatly appreciated.

like one time i was in the 5th grade and my teacher kept on throwing out my homework!! so she could send me to the office and get me in trouble!...i was down in that office everyday all that year and they even tried to get me a detention but nope my parents took care of it and I ONE and the god dam teacher lost :)
but then she fallowed me up to high school iam going into 8th grade i better not have her as a teacher i was lucky last year i didnt have her
i hate that F*CKING TEACHER SOO MUCH!!

I mean to say that after the completion of my post graduate studies I ve got a teaching job just as a fresh candidate. So Im also little nervous that how should I behave on my ist day when there will be the Principle nad heads of that department to check my way of teaching.
Im confident enough but the reason for this hesitation is that Ive no experience before for teaching line. And I also like this field.
