They both read like a newspaper headline rather than actual sentences. As a headline, either one works just fine (though #1 would be generally preferred, due to its absence of articles). However, if you want to be absolutely correct, it would be "The whole family takes poison and leaves a long suicide letter!"

If these are supposed to be newspaper headings they should read:
Whole family takes poison! Leaves long suicide letter!
But if you are just speaking of an incident in the past then it would be better to use the past tense:
The whole family took poison! They left a long suicide letter.

Neither one is right. They are not complete sentences. A whole family takes poison and leaves a long suicide letter.

Neither is actually right.

However, sentence 2 is closer to being right, however, it should read: Whole family takes poison! Leaves a long suicide letter!

I don't think either one of them are right. I would word it..."Whole family consumed poison and left a long suicide note. Is this for a headline or something??? Sounds like it. It makes a big diffrence if your writing a headline or an actual sentence.

Neither. I would say:

The whole family takes poison and leaves a long suicide letter.

The whole family takes poison.
They leave A long suicide letter.

Because letter is a countable noun.

Sentence 2 is the more correctly formed of the two.
However, either sentence would suffice for a newspaper headline, since newspapers care less about news than about how fast they can print it.
