I am considering home-schooling my 2 children. One is 4 & the youngest 1 year old. My daughter begins the new prep-year here in Australia in 2 weeks. She is only 4 & it is like full time school. It is voluntary until next year. My family may be moving next year as my husband is seriously considering leaving his current job to join the airforce. If we do this then we will be moving to another state for 4 months and then moving again for 1 year before moving again for 2 years and then moving again...... Is it better just to home-school, rather than move them in and out of schools? Even if we do not move- how will they get to learn social skills if they are home-schooled? Are there any play groups for children learning at home? Please help?

Okay. Here it is. I have two children in school ages 5 and a half and 8 next month. Should I go above and beyond what the teacher normally gives and make my child do at least an extra 45 minutes of work EACH day (this includes weekends and holidays) or is a normal school day enough? My problem is my son's bio daddy makes him work weekends/holidays and I think it is wearing down the boy. Yes I've told him how I feel. So what does the general PARENTING populis think? Yea, or nay on working 30 to 60 minutes on weekends, including Sundays and Friday nights.

Hi, i am currently doing my As levels in Maths, English, ICT, Business Studies. My main career objective is going on to study business in university. I want to know do you have to do 4 A levels to stand out, i am in my As year and i absolutly hate maths. I am struggling like mad in it and i put nearly all my spare time in doing maths work that im starting to fall behind on other subjects. I really want to drop it! If i keep maths for the rest of this AS year then i will end up getting grades like ABDE ( an E in maths), but if i drop maths i will have more time for other subjects and i reckon i will get grades like AAB!! What should i do, i want to study Business in university and im thinking what if other people do 4 alevels and get more ucas points than me, then i will have no chance of getting into a top university? Any body have any advice that can help me?

My child is in yr 5 at school, he has been verbally bullied for the last few months at school. On the first 2 occasions the headmaster assured me it wouldnt happen again. It has happened again, this time my son broke down in the playground, i went and spoke to the headmaster, who again assured me he would speak to the children concerned, and that would be an end to it! This was no-longer acceptable to me, so i have kept him off school for the last week. In the mean time i have written to the parent govenor and also the council. The council said they would get involved if after the parent gov gets involved and i am still not happy. I received a letter from the school asking me to go in for a meeting with the headmaster, but also an officer?? what officer? truancy? I am really annoyed if this is the case, as i am protecting my son, as the school dont want to know! The school have made me feel like i am just causing problems, and they try to make excuses.

I'm black, and a white Sp. Ed. student pushed through me in a doorway and received a one-day suspension in which noone wanted to even call his parents to inform them of the suspension, already knowing they would be fit to be tied. Same day, a black Sp. Ed. student pushed a white staff member, and is facing expulsion. I don't mind the one day that my student received, b/c I didn't feel physically threatened, he just needed to know that that was unacceptable. I'm trying to see if the system somehow is to the point where the less-advantaged children who don't have strong family advocates aren't receiving the same treatment as those who do come from more privileged or educated backgrounds. In this case, the black kid is being raised by a retired factory working, medically-fragile grandparent and the white kid's parent both have degrees.

Why is it necessary? Are the schools inadequate? And if so, are you hiding the problem by tutoring your child so that it appears they are being taught properly?
