Respect is very important in the classroom by both teachers and students. A student does not have to like another classmate or the teacher, but for a climate where learning take place, respect must be practiced by all. When a student or teacher does not show respect for someone else within the classroom, it distracts from learning by all parties within the classroom.
Talking during a test whether it be loudly or quietly is highly distracting to others who are trying to take the test. Not only is it disruptive, the chances of either you being able to finish your tests will be unlikely if the teacher happens to catch you talking and takes your test(s) away. Also, you will more than likely get an F on that test which will hurt yours and your friend's grades. Test don't generally take that long, talk afterward and give you and others a peaceful environment to take the test. Any distractions can hinder someone from giving their best performance on an exam.
It is my experience that when another student responds to an inappropriate comment made by a fellow student, it hinders not helps the situation. If a student does yell out inappropriately, it is the teacher's responsibility to handle the situation and remove the student if necessary. When a fellow student responds, 99.9% of the time it will only escalate into something much more disruptive.

Yes, respect is very important in a classroom. Though not a HUGE breech in etiquette, per se, talking quietly to a friend during a test can keep fellow students from doing as well on the test. It might not necessarily disrupt class, but it can cause the people around the talkers to lose their focus and concentration. Would you want that to happen to you?
I don't think that responding to inappropriate comments helps the situation, though of course, the situation varies. Such as, if a student says something that is racist or sexist or anything, then I think that it's fine for someone to tell them that what they say is offensive, and that it shouldn't be said. However, it is NOT a good idea to respond in an equally inappropriate or rude manner. This will only cause more bad feelings and general disruption.

Yes everyone needs to be respectful of each other. Talking quietly might disrupt someone who may have a hard time concentrating and staying focus taking a test they may need complete silence to concentrate. It is better if the teacher responds to the inappropriate comment since the student would most likely listen to a figure of authority.

Respect is important anywhere, anytime, to everyone! Talking quietly may not disturb you, but you have no idea how it effects others in your class. Also, your teacher has no way of knowing what you are talking about -- after all, a test is in progress and unfortunately the number of students who cheat is on the rise. As far as the other situation, you should never lower yourself to equal the level of someone who does something you disapprove of or says something you do not like. The best way to earn the respect and honor of your peers is to respond in a way that makes you look better than the other person and in the process shows others what the other person is like.

Respect is very important in a classroom ,such as it sets the environment inwhich one learns. Without respect, the teacher wouldn't find it neccessary to teach and without student respect for themselves, other students and the teacher; there would be no desire for learning. You must not only give respect for others in your learning environment, but you must also receive it! The classroom must approach each and every person that resides in it. That takes the work of all that take up that space. It isn't always easy accomodating each person's needs, but we must all respect each others requests. If the teacher asks for no talking during a test, he or she has a reason. All students concentrate at different levels where whispering takes them off-task. Others may not mind classmates talking, but lets remember that the environment must meet all needs. So to comply with no talking during a test doesn't seem like such an aweful task to do. Respecting requests of others makes it easier and less caotic for the numbers of bodies to deal with. Why would you talk during a test anyway...just concentrate and comply with the rules of the classroom! How rude it would be to me if you yaked while I was trying to concentrate. Simply think!
In reference to your comment question, yes it usually adds wood to the fire when response is given to another's inappropriate loud comments. You have now given them the attention they are seeking and it creates a reason to continue. Any attention is better then no attention is what that loud obnoxious person is thinking. In another situation it could depend on the comment given to the inappropriate student. It could not only anger that student, but increase the situation from comments to physical agression. In another case a 'powerful appropriate comment' might just put that acting out student in their place. You must judge the call carefully. So if you think your comment may increase someones anger, just ignor instead. To ignor, is to give them no time of day...better known as no power. Beleive me, there is no power given when you ignor the theatrics, therefore the performing stops! When you put power in one's hand, beware of the outcomes. So think before releasing power to anger or disrespect.
