this is my method:
Learn what you have to, or learn as much as you can on the subject
Memorise the facts at a basic level
Test yourself
Get tested by someone else
Works every time!

Seriously, try this. Take a 5 x 7 notecard and write down as much information that you think will be on the test. Cram as much stuff as you can onto it. Write in the smallest print you can. I had a chemistry class in high school where the teacher allowed us to have a 5 x 7 notecard cheat-sheet. We could put whatever we wanted on it. By the time the test came around, I knew everything that was on the card so I didn't even need it during the test! The reason is because I was concentrating so hard on picking details and writing them so small that I memorized everything in one evening. I'm not making this up. It really works!

First you have to understand the lessons,
Then take short notes and then memorize the meaning of the notes not the words itself
