As an undergrad, I felt like my academic career was a mess. My GPA was a 3.5 in a major where all my friends had 4.0s. I was constantly seeing what they had that I didn't have and felt so much discontent. Comparison was not a motivator but a cause of fear and lack of confidence that made me continue spiralling in my downward path.

I still have problems dealing with "perfect" people... I strive to be like them but I continue to fail.

Any advice on how to be happy admist my world of overacheivers and perfect scorers?

Im thinking of taking

Foundations of bio lecture and lab = (4credits)
General Chemistry 2 Lecture and lab = (5 credits)
Calculus = (4 Credits)

A Writing Intensive class which is required by my college...its a class where you have to mainly write a lot of papers/essays.
and the Writing Intensive class would = (3 credits)

Total would be 16 credits for this semester...

I was thiking that maybe i shouldnt take the writing intensive since i already have (in my opinion) 3 hard class...but then at the same time i think it wont be too bad.. But i just dont want to have to drop the writing intensive class later if i think i cant get a good grade..what do you guys think?

Ok so I am a junior in high school and will be going to college within a matter of less than two years.. I live close to a jr. college (15 miles) but I want to go to a 4-year that is 3 hours away... My parents think otherwise since I am apparently still an infant in thier eyes... I am considering telling them to kiss it and just going anyway seeing as I will be 18 and they have no rights then over me. Good decision or bad??

i'm applying to a lot of the selective colleges, like harvard, mit, upenn, and uc-berkeley. i just took my sats, and i got 1970 on sat I, and 800, 720, 710 on the sat IIs. i have excellent extracurricular stuff, but my gpa is only about 3.7, and because i attend a small school, i took only one ap class. the more i look at the "successful cases" the more i feel that i can't get into any of these colleges. i'm so worried, it's what i think about all day long. my parents and everyone is putting a lot of pressure on me, and i'm putting even more pressure on myself. i just want to get into those colleges, to prove that i'm good, at least i'm not as bad as some people think of me. i'm so frustrated right now, i just don't think that i'll have a chance at getting in.

I am a college student that doesn't drink or party because I am working, trying to find another job, writing scholarship essays, taking 17 credits and genuinely trying to learn something. I get up every weekday at 7am, and I work hard. Today, I complained to a group of people in a class that my hallway was noisy until 3am last night, when I had an 8am class this morning, and that they all sleep until noon everyday. Instead of saying, "Oh, go see the RA." They immediately responded, "That's what college is supposed to be like." College is supposed to be like 20 drunk girls screaming down the hallway at 3am on a Thursday? The question is: Is there something wrong with them, or is there something wrong with me? Am I just too much of a stick in the mud for my own good? Why should I have to study at the library until 3am every night, because I can't study or sleep in my room? Why do other college students think it is the college experience and OK?

Every Mormon kid at my school is planning on going there. They never explain why-they say "well, it's owned by my church" or something to that extent

I'm a first year undergrad and this semester's grades are so bad i'll probably be put on academic probation. However, I have every intent of getting perfect marks next semester. Last year I applied to a different state university where I was accepted. I want to reapply and transfer there for fall '07. Will one semester of academic probation completely ruin my chances of getting in? Do universities give you a chance to show improvement during spring semester before accepting or rejecting you, or do they ever do something like accept you but make it clear they expect you to keep your grades up or else they'll dismiss you?
