My grandson got a Sally May Goverment loan about 1 1/2 or 2 yrs. ago to go to calarney arts school in Vegas were he lives. Unfortunately he some how didn't see (?) how much interest it was. Some were around 25%. He is paying around $550. a month. And from what little I know about interest rates he'll be paying all his life. He has a job in calarney arts but that is a hugh amount of interest to be paying . He will not be able to do much of anything paying that much. Does any one have suggestions on how to get another loan to get it payed off in a certain amount of time? A real loan, with good interest rates, not a rip off like this one. My daughter said there was a show on Date line or one of them type of show's and they were saying how it is ruining people's lifes. I can co sign for him but being he has good credit and a good job that he been at for a while he may not need a co signer. Any help at all would be greatly appreacheated.

Hi, im a freshman just starting community college, and i receive the full 4,000 dollars from FAFSA (Pell Grant) for the full year
Fall('06) - Spring('07)
I never had a job when i applied for the Fafsa, so my income was zero, my parents dont make that much either, and im a dependent so thats why i got the full benefits, my question is...in the summer of 06, i got a job, and am still workin that job currently,
i make about 500 a month (workin @ target),
How will having a job effect how much grant money i will receive next year? Will i receive less? if you can be exact with the amount or just a rough estimate & should i continue to work? or just quit my job, and focus on school, and is it stupid to file for an income tax return, if im considered a dependent? if i do continue to work, will i still receive grant money and how much?

Thanks to everyone in advance, this is really important to me

I am a science teacher in Mississippi in title I school. I don't qualify for the $17,500.00 loan forgiveness program because I started school in 1995, then went back in 1998. That means I had an outstanding balance on my Stafford loans on the cutoff date of Oct. 1998. Is there any other program that can help me. I have $52,000 in loans and am a single parent.

I am 18 years old, live in Virginia, in my Senior year of high school and am getting ready to attend college. My plan is to take my first 2 years of college at New River Community College and then transfer over to Virginia Military Institute. After college I wish to be an officer in the infinitry in a military branch. My question is, if I enlist in the National Guard right now, the guard will pay 100% Tuition assistance at any accredited college or university. I was wondering if this means the guard is going to pay for the tuition at a community college or do I have to start out at a "real" college? Thanks for any help and no, I dont want to go ask this question to a recruiter.

I grew up in America, but my family dragged me back when I was a teenager. I'm a good student, with lots of awards and a pretty good resume. I want to go to the US for college, but the problem is, I have no money. (No money, as in barely enough for my ticket to get there.) So I'm wondering, is it possible? Can I get into a good school? This is really important for me, if anyone could answer, I'd be very, very grateful.

its pretty high and i only have a bachelors degree so i dont make alot of money. I fear i will never be able to buy a home if i am single. The problem is its mostly private loans with a high interest rate. is there a way to consolidate it to a government loan with a better interest rate. I've been paying for 4 years and i have never been late.

Im a 19 year old college student and my freshman year I did not recieve any financial aid(except for 2K a semester in federal loans). All my friends and cousins have been telling me that the best way to recieve financial aid is to file taxes as an independent. I was wondering what I have to do to be considered independent. I really dont want to get in trouble with the government, but college is expensive and my family cannot afford to pay. Do I have to have a different address than my parents? Did I have to make a certain amount of money? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Can I use part of my Stafford loan for summer tuition? Also, can I take out extra to buy a laptop for school, especially since I am going to take online classes? Are there particular rules about how you have to allocate the money?

Christmas is almost two weeks away and everything is going wrong! My wife and I are both disabled and draw fixed income, which we and our two teen children manage on. Then the car went kablooey and next it was a line of dominoes! They are threatening to shut off our phone...(we have till Dec 22 but we dont get paid til Jan 2 and they wont budge) Dish is gonna pull the plug also. We dont even have enough Food for the month. (The charities here only give food every three months). We dont need a new home...or any makeovers...or thousands of dollars. We just need a little help to make this a decent Christmas for the kids. We have exhausted every possible effort. I know God will see us through this but...
