Why not just get a loan from my credit union, pay my school with it? Is it all about interest rates?

My husband and I moved 3 yrs ago and had trouble with bills and stuff being forwarded. We just found out about a Student Loan that we "forgot" about and were told that to avoid having wages garnished we had to pay $3000 by Februrary 1 or we lose everything in my husbands paycheck. Now, I am not currently working (another story for another time)...anyone have any advice for getting them to leave us alone or at least lower the payment?

I have searched and searched to no avail. I'm 18 years old and need a place to live ASAP. I need assistance paying rent for an apartment, but have gotten mixed answers online and phone menu after phone menu. I'm a single female, still in high school, with good grades and a part time job. My income is at most $400/month, and I'm in the "thumb area." I need some real answers, preferrably from people who have had to move out of their homes sooner than expected, or have dealt with similar situations. Thank you.

Let's say I grew up in a dirt poor, lower class family. My parents, for whatever reason, were not able to accumulate any savings. I go through school and graduate, but when I leave I have no money for college. What are my chances of procuring a scholarship and/or loan? Assuming I procure a loan, what are the chances that I will be able to get a job that affords me paying it back in time to accumulate some savings of my own? Assuming I am able to get a job, how long (on average) would it take me to pay back that loan?

These loans are not in default, or have they used forbearance or defferments alloted once leaving school. I have no family of my own, or spouse, or great job prospects that would pay them..i.e. doctor, lawyer..etc...and I'm 44 years old. I feel that my prospects of ever having a life are nill to none..especially never getting the start in life, how can I now, or who would marry me with that kind of debt, unless some miraculous intervention..such as getting a movie deal, or winning the lottery.

I left my boyfriend last month. I'm 23 and we have a 3-year-old daughter together. I have been a stay-at-home mom for the last four years, and have not filed any taxes because I've earned no income. Now I'm trying to get into a community college to be an RN, and I can't prove how poor I am. My ex has claimed our daughter as his dependent on all the tax papers, and my name is not on there anywhere.
The only other way I can see is to say I'm dependant on my dad, but then I don't think I can get aid because he makes about $70,000/year. He does not contribute to my life in any way.
My ex is paying my rent and utilities for the time being, and I have no leeway with money whatsoever. I have put aside almost enough to get my daughter started with daycare so I can work.

I have been trying to donate money to some Katrina victims from last year and every time I try to enquire where my donation is going they won't give me an answer. The way I see it is that the government takes care of the black victims enough so I want to make sure this money I'm trying to donate goes to good white families who are still rebuilding from Katrina. Is they're any donation funds and services available so I can make sure that the people that I'm wanting to help goes to good white families?

A relative wants to put life insurance benefits from a deceased family member in my kids' names. I'm worried that whatever amount it might be, it will interfere with their ability to receive financial aid for college later, which they certainly will need. Should I ask him to put it in my husbands' and my names?
