I left my boyfriend last month. I'm 23 and we have a 3-year-old daughter together. I have been a stay-at-home mom for the last four years, and have not filed any taxes because I've earned no income. Now I'm trying to get into a community college to be an RN, and I can't prove how poor I am. My ex has claimed our daughter as his dependent on all the tax papers, and my name is not on there anywhere.
The only other way I can see is to say I'm dependant on my dad, but then I don't think I can get aid because he makes about $70,000/year. He does not contribute to my life in any way.
My ex is paying my rent and utilities for the time being, and I have no leeway with money whatsoever. I have put aside almost enough to get my daughter started with daycare so I can work.

The best thing to do is to talk to someone at the financial aid department of the school where you are applying. They're better equipped to help you. And if you haven't worked, you haven't worked. You can't report what you don' t make.

There are programs out there for SAHMs to enter into the workforce including childcare assistance. I recommend going to your local welfare or workforce office for more information.
