Not necessarily. Most student loans are through the Federal Deparment of Education. The amount you can borrow is determined by need and limited by the year you are in school. Remember also, that a student loan is just that, a loan. It must be paid back, so it is study now, pay later. A grant or a scholarship is money for college that is granted or given. You do not have to pay back grants and scholarships.

Not all loans need cosigners. But cosigners can help you get lower interest rates (esp. for private loans).
