I want to take a cheap dvd player to Italy (instead of buying a more expensive portable dvd player w/ screen) to the place I'm statying at in Italy, which has a tv that's at least ten years old. Would the connection(s) on the tv be compatible in order to see dvds on it thru the US-bought dvd player?

I have a HD LCD screen. It was working fine but is now cutting off the sides of the picture on any HD channel. If I view it in 16:9 it looks un proprotioned and HD channel in 4:3 it is not distorted but you can still see that the picture is cut off on the sides. Before this started I was viewing these channels in 16:9 and it was not distorted.

i recently had problems with my t.v., so like a moron i tried to fix it myself. i messed it up bad, but eventually got the screen looking in order again. The only problem is on the sides of the screen, mostly noticable on the right, they are green tinted and a little out of focus. Is there a way to coorect this, even if it means opening her up?

When I turned on my picture tube TV today there was only a thin color line across the middle of the screen. The sound was fine. This has happened several other times while the TV was on but after turning it off and on again , it was fine. Has it finally given out?

The Comcast installation guy told me I have to keep my cable box plugged in all the time. Is this true? I rarely watch TV and got cable mainly for college football season.

In answers to my question I got to know from 'oddball' and 'realist 2006' (to whom I am thankful) that the colour guns fire on the phosphorated plates on the CRT screen plate to show different colours. Please tell me how these three guns work. Thank you.

I needed a new 42" flat TV. I prefer LCD than Plasma. My budget is SG$2.5K - 3.5K

I think LCD has strong advantage:
-Reflection on Plasma glass screen make LCD a big plus.
-Plasma consume more energy and has Burn-in effect.

But dis-advantage of LCD :
- LCD is more expensive than Plasma.
- Plasma image is brighter and more lively colors than LCD.

I went to a few shops and found these:

1) Mega Discount (United Sq).
a) Philips Pixel Plus Plasma 42PF732 (42")
-SG$2750.
-852x480 (but it claims HD ready??)
-3-year warranty by Philips.

2) Gain City (AMK)
a) Toshiba 42WL66E/A/T/R, 42" LCD
-SG$3699.
-1366x768
-1year +1 warranty.

b) Paliumoe (Korea Brand) 42" LCD,
-SG$2399
-1366x768
-But picture and colour quality is terrible compare to others.

3) Harvey Norman
-ViewSonic 40" LCD, 1360x768
-SG$2399
-no idea about its quality.

====

-Which should I buy?
-What other good deals have I miss out?
-Should I wait till Comex Exh 31Aug for better deals?

Our professor at college told us that irrespective of the gas used in the cathode ray tube ,it generates only green colour as fluorescence then how come the T.V sets show colours other than green although it uses the cathode tube?

I've got a big (and ever increasing) collection of DVDs, including some great black and white classics, like "Casablanca", "Captain Blood", and "The Maltese Falcon" that aren't letterboxed. I've heard that these look OK on HDTV, as long as you are using a progressive scan DVD player. Is that really true?

Should I stop buying DVDs, sell them, and save my money for HD-DVD or Blue-Ray DVDs? Thanks for your help.

My questions is: when a TV has no signal and the screen is pure solid black, are the pixels actually colored black or are they no color at all? When the TV is off the screen is black....

I'm house sitting for a friend and they have a 60 inch high definition TV that's about 2 years old. I was watching a movie and afterwards I turned off the DVD player, which made the screen go black, but forgot to turn off the actual screen. I've heard about burn in and all that, and now the picture seems darker now, but it is brighter in the room and maybe I'm just thinking it's darker out of anxiety. The TV was like this for maybe 12 hours straight and I'm hoping I didn't break it.

What connection is better, a VGA connection or a Component connection when hooking up my LCD TV to my cable box. The instructions say VGA for very best followed by Component, I question that though.
