When I turned on my picture tube TV today there was only a thin color line across the middle of the screen. The sound was fine. This has happened several other times while the TV was on but after turning it off and on again , it was fine. Has it finally given out?

It just needs the vertical amp chip resoldering. Very easy if you can use small soldering iron and identify the vert chip . This is a very common fault and any TV tech will have fixed heaps by now .

No your picture tube is not "shot" what you are seeing is verticle deflection failure, you most likely have a defective vertical output IC that failed because of bad solder connections. Its a fairly easy fix so somone with a little experience.

You definitely have a vertical problem, This is really common in JVCs. If you have a JVC then all you have to do is resolder the vertical output IC. A shop usually costs around $90.

Yup. Sounds like the tube is shot. My kid bro used to work in electrical engineering, so I got to see a few.

no that can be fixed, there are two transistors that are probably bad or not soldered good. a repairperson can fix it real easy but they will charge you.
