My television sound problem has been diagnosed as in the "audio IC"

IC, is short for integrated circuit. This is the chip (or black thingie with many legs) on the circuit board that has the job of taking the sound information received from your television station and sending it to your speakers. For more information I would suggest you look at 'how stuff works' under Televisions.
And no, you cannot replace it yourself.There is a reason it says 'no consumer replaceable parts inside'
