what is the best way to convert vid files on your pc to a dvd?

i recently bought a dvd burner but can't burn dvds as all my vids are in the wrong format. What format do i need to get them in and whats the best way to do it

well in case you want to burn your movies so that you can view them on a standalone DVD Player, then you need to encode them. Check out "ConvertXtoDVD". It helps you create a DVD out of virtually any file format and you can customise the compression, quality, menus etc.....You can even cram in 2-3 movies into a single dvd albeit, at a little loss of quality.
