In my opinion, If you can get an LCD flat panel in the size you want then go for it. This is the best format. You may want to make sure it can input VGA and at least 720p component. If it has a Hi-def tuner this may also be a selling point. The flat panels don't get as hot and their life is extended as a result. The only time a plasma is a better Idea is if You are looking for something 40" and above. The cost of LCD at those sizes are too outrageous. I recommend staying away from LCD projection because the small panels don't handle the heat from the lamps very long, and therefore DLP projection is the only choice. Sharp Aquos is my favorite brand, but no matter what you buy make sure that you get the extended warranty and make sue that there is a local shop in your area that accepts the warranty.

i have a samsung 50inch DLP screen...
not as thin as your plasma or lcd but not far off.
It has no picture lag...when a car goes by it doesnt have a trail behind it.
better processing power...can handle more colours than soft jove.
playing XBOX 360 on it is outstanding!!!
LCD: runs hot
Plasma:although running hot unlike an LCD screen it does not have a backlit system.
LCD:as stated has a backlit system which means a light at the back of the panel is used to produce the colours...so as you can gather blacks are not black...they are hue's of grey...not true black
PLASMA:not a backlit system...blacks are blacker...it uses Xenon gas and a special phosphour to produce a clearer and crisper picture than lcd.
but to throw a spanner in the works...do not dissmiss the idea of DLP.
DLP means digital light processing...one light with millions of mirrors are used to produce the image...and trust me...i work in this industry and i have seen what your sonys have to offer and what panasonic have on show...they are poor in the the wake of a DLP TV.
i hope i have been able to help.
choose well and enjoy your tv

plamas are heavy expensive and use a lot of electricity they do have the Superior picture. you have to sit directly in front of a lcd tv or the picture is degraded , just like the handheld games of the past. you know you can still buy a regular picture tube type of tv that is high definition and digital. they are much cheaper and are time tested. oh by the way both the plasma and lcd tvs break down a lot and are very expensive to fix.

Plasmas are generally regarded as having a superior picture quality but LCDs are often cheaper and still provide an impressive picture.
If you get HD-Ready, you still have to get sky HD subscription, a special HD box and have limited channels.
But it is future proof. Most shops tell you if the tv is HD-Ready.

I can't believe there are still people out there who think that Plasma TV's have got to be regassed !!!
As mentioned previously LCD is better up to about 42 inch and Plasma is better / more affordable in larger size screens.

for a bigger size, like over 42", i would definiteyl go with plasma. the picture quality AND the price are just better all-around for plasmas at that size. smaller than that, i would recommend lcd. the blacks are blacker, and the colours are a little more vibrant at smaller sizes than plasma.

Don't forget DLP. I just bought a Toshiba 62" and it is better than anything else out there right now. Shop around.
