I have about 400-500 dollars to spend on a compact digital camera. The most important thing for me is picture quality and a decent zoom. What kind should I get?

I got a new digital camera for Christmas. What I'm finding is that the batteries are wearing down very quickly. I replaced the batteries that came with the camera with rechargable ones, but found that for the few things I did with the camera today, i.e. took a few pics, tried to learn more about the camera, I found that the batteries were at less than half again, which meant I had to put the batteries back onto the charger. Is there anything I can do to help preserve the battery life? I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks & certainly don't want to be replacing batteries every time I turn around.
My camera is a Polaroid i531 & takes 2 AA batteries.

I just got a samsung s85 camera, and I am using ni-mh batteries (new ones, on 3rd cycle charge), and the batteries only seem to last for 1 hour max, or usually under an hour it seems, they constantly keep telling me the batteries are low and it turns it self off, but will come back on for a few seconds. When I use view picture mode it says batteries are full for a bit, but when im in photo take mode it shows as full then drops down to very low quickly. Is it something wrong with the way the camera holds battery charge? Or is it the batteries fault?

Hey guys my Kodak C530 Digital Camera just broke and I wondering whats the next best camera because I dont feel like fixing it. I looked on Yahoo Answers and I seen a lot of people said Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, and Nikon but those Cameras are unfortunately very very expensive. Im only looking to spend around 100 bucks so I guess Im stuck with HP, Samsung, Digital Cocepts, some Kodak, and Panasonic. So my question is which is the best inexpensive camera on the market? Im thinking of just upgrading to a Kodak C613, so if anyone can think of a good camera let me know.

The camera seems to come on when batteries are put in it, however the screen does not come up. I tried to click the shutter button but there is no sound associated with it. Replacing new batteries does not change anything. So if anyone has any suggestions that would get this camera working I would be grateful

This is from the D300 at ISO 6400. It is cropped, but otherwise untouched in any way. Note that it is at 1/125 sec. with a minor bit of fill flash.

I want a small pocket camera with a biggish zoom. I'm thinking of a Canon Exilim V8 or a Samsung S850. They're $200 and $150. The canon has a bigger optical zoom and a non-expanding lens. But the samsung is cheaper and seems to be getting better reviews from people. And I'm not sure if Samsung is really a good brand or not....

I am interested in exploring photography as a hobby and I'm eventually going to buy a digital SLR camera - probably in the next 6 months. Can you recommend a camera that will be good for a beginner and still be useful down the road. Would your recommendation also work well in place of a point and shoot or would you recommend also having a point and shoot camera for taking snapshots?

It is an Easyshare M753. It's going to cost more than half the price of buying it to fix it. What happened is that it fell and the lens was sill sticking out. The lens got jammed back in. I would show you a pic except the camera is broken. I can't really afford to get it fixed. I need help the error is 122,1,0,0
