Software - February 2007

I would like to know how can I tell if Linux would work for my Desk top. I was telled it is builded for Windows XP. I got this used off of ebay sold as a whitebox / gamer desktop. Did not come with any O.S. or any thing. But a working and running windows XP.
Was telled by seller he was going to add the new windows on it. So I'm guessing it has newer items inside it. But the PC gone on me where I had to re booted it by useing a windows 98 from a frend of mine. So would and how can I tell this is going to work for me? Thanks for looking and your time....

All I want this operating system is for surfing the net and basically checking mail online. So I don't need a bloated operating system that can do a million things. I was thinking a Linux distro, but which one gives me just the basics (a browser, an Mp3 player and a notepad)?

Every time I try it it copies the formula and "skips" over 2 reference cells.
Ex.
Reference cells have in them:
X G G X G G X G G X G G

I want to drag fill to get:
X X X X

Does any of this make sense?
There are about 10 time a day when this would help me out tremendously!

I am considering to download limewire, cuz there are a couple of songs i'd like to have, you know, those songs you like cuz they get stuck in your head so easily that you just wish you can listen to it anytime you want.

i'm not planning to download an entire album, an entire movie, or the Friends season.

but i have heard it is dangerous, and a lot of viruses and spyware and things kill your computer. plus there is supposedly pedo things within the codes and blah blah blah.

i guess, the question is, what are the risks (i'm not asking for an opinion but a true, neutral, down to earth fact) of limewire, including what kind of viruses, what kind of spyware, etc, will i get from it. what are the sure ways to eleminate these risks(etc: i heard that the danger is from YOUR OWN files being sent to someone, what programs should i use?). And if you can, give me a suggestion

I also have AVG Free, which i hear is an excellent program, will that kill the viruses?

I just downloaded the latest version but i cant find it anywhere on my computer.And if youve seen my last wuestion then you would know that my computer is messed up because I didnt have the right one or something like that so how do i launch it?or even find it? When I open Excel by itself or I click a specific file saved in Excel, I get the same error message each time saying:

C:\myfilelocationishere\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the location is correct.

If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.

How do I fix this error? I no longer have the file it is looking for and I do not want to re-download it.

When i tried to install WSOP tournament of champions i got this message "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll was not found." Then i updated lastest direct X. Now i get this message when i click on icon to start game. APLLICATION ERROR "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000ba). Click on OK to terminate apllication. Any ideas?

I can't burn it on to a cd because its too big (1.19GB) and I don't have a dvd drive only cd-rw. I'm trying to run Streets and Trips 2007 in ISO. Are there any program(s) to run it? I have Nero Version 5.5.10.26.

I just got a new iPod nano and i tried to download iTunes from the site. Everything runs soothly, I click open and it shows a little empty bar filling up, then it fills and a windows installer box pops up saying "preparing windows installer" then another box pops up and says iTunes is unable to download because either Windows is in safe mode (which it isnt) or Windows Installer is incorrectly installed. what do i do? please help me. new ipod. has had no songs for 2 months now!
