When I open Excel by itself or I click a specific file saved in Excel, I get the same error message each time saying:

C:\myfilelocationishere\RCH_Stock_Market_Functions.xla could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the location is correct.

If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.

How do I fix this error? I no longer have the file it is looking for and I do not want to re-download it.

Please note - there are NO external references in my sheet. When I open up the program to a blank/empty sheet, I still get the error message.

1- Check your XLStart folder in "C:\ Documents and Settings"
it seams that you put some file there that are asking for this file
2- Delete temporary files in "C:\ Documents and Settings"
3- In a blank file, press ALT+F11 to go to the VBE of Excel, in that window, open each node in Project Explorer list in the left and check for code that are asking for a file to open. these code could have come to your computer by a virus.

On of the formula in your spreadsheet is referring to this now missing file.

Its bad habits by many users who use external reference which should be avoided. You have to find and remove it.
