I would like to know how can I tell if Linux would work for my Desk top. I was telled it is builded for Windows XP. I got this used off of ebay sold as a whitebox / gamer desktop. Did not come with any O.S. or any thing. But a working and running windows XP.
Was telled by seller he was going to add the new windows on it. So I'm guessing it has newer items inside it. But the PC gone on me where I had to re booted it by useing a windows 98 from a frend of mine. So would and how can I tell this is going to work for me? Thanks for looking and your time....

Linux is not windoze.

Linux runs upto 50X faster.
Linux is immune to the "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions".
Linux has 134,430 FREE applications, programs, Office Suites.
Linux is secure, it is almost impossible to crack the passwords, if proper ones be used.
Linux burns music and movies without making "coasters".
Linux has 310 LiveCDroms that boot in the CD, run in RAM.

Linux runs my Dell 933Mhz system with 512Mb RAM very fast, installed on a 6Gb drive, with two firewire external drives plugged in.

Linux operating systems are excellent. They now come with a graphical user interface (GUI) just like MS Windows. Try out one of the free distributions. My favorite is UBUNTU. You can download it, or order a CD, at

Linux is nothing like windows and yes it will work. if your fimiliair with DOS then you should do ok with :Inux but if you like to point and click on things then don't mess with Linux
