Software - February 2007

Well this is a bit hard for me to explain...but...im wondering how to get the setup thing from a program...like lets say my friend has microsoft word or photoshop or something like that.... is there a way that i can get the stuff from his computer (like extract the setup or install thing) and put it in a flash drive so i can put it on my computer to install it? Also is there a way to get the key code for it while im doing that?

My computer starts up normally. Goes through everything until the "safe mode" and such screen. I tried all the options but after the screen where u have "WINDOWS" and a little blue bar below, it flashes a blue screen and the whole thing restarts. Im sorry im not very technical and might be confusing, but if anyone has an idea wat im saying and might know an answer, its really appreciated.

well i recently updated to wondows XP. i didn't do it. I went to a computer place. Anyways now I cant seem to be able to write papers because I dont have Microsoft Word.
What can i do?
do i have to buy the software?

frist off I do know that the SP1 has all that SP2 in windows XP 32bit has and so on and so on :) they just call it SP1 for XP 64bit.

My ?tion is I was looking around and seen something that says MS has a Beta SP2 for XP 64bit.. But I can't seem to find it anyplace. If you know of a place I can get it PLEASE let me know!! Thank you much!!

I have an excel spreadsheet that I use to track my expenses. In one spreadsheet I list all the expenses that i have then I select which account was used to pay for this item. Then I have separate spreadsheets for each of my accounts. I am looking for a way where I can just enter the information once into the spreadsheet that tracks all my expenditures and the information will show up in the spreadsheet for the appropriate account. I was wondering if I could do this with a filer in some fashion.

We have a Compaq presario 4240E3 and we upgraded the pentium 2 processor to a pentium 3 and upgraded the memory from 48megabytes to 128 and we put in the windows 98 and windows XP upgrade dics but each time it starts to upgrade but an error message pops up saying "Your computer already has an Operating system installed, which cannot be upgraded by this version of setup. You need to obtain the windows 98 (or XP) upgrade."

I am fairly new to Linux and I have currently used Fedora Core 4 and 5. I am looking at either upgrading to FC6 or possible replacing Fedora with SuSe or some other distro. What is the best flavor of Linux? Which has the best software, drivers, graphical interface, etc......

I understand drivers are the issue but I really only run an HP printer which hopefully Vista will have a driver for? I thought 64 bit as it will probably be more future proofing than a 32 bit. As it will be a new system vista will cope with it- I hope

Please help, I have 40GB, on one partition I have windows XP I wanna keep, and on the other I installed Linux Fedora core. and the boot also now is GRUB.. I want now to remove linux and format the second partition as NTFS so I can use it in WINDOWS. and of course want to remove the boot grub, as I understand removing grub is easy.
But how can I find FREE not demo SOFTWARE that can reformat linux partition to NTSF. is LINUX CD itself can do that? is FDISK of windows can do that safely? please provide step by step or reference to site. I cannot afford losing windows partition. but I want the other half of my hard disk.

I cant use Nero cause it messes the registry up and I have to delete files and program or my computer has mass problems, as in, won't reset or shut down, randomly resets, and other things. I talked to a Sony tech and they told me they don't know why but my model and the one before have that problem. Now, I loaded a Magix Movie Edit Pro 11, and my computer killed it. I mean, I load it, and theres errors. Also, my computer did some weird things, so, I deleted it. Why is this? How do I correct it?

I got a software in iso format, when I use it by virtural CD, It will be autorun by itself and work fine, but when I burn it to DVD by 1:1 copy, The software won't autorun again. I have try Nero and Vertual CD8, but without success. Could anyone know what's wrong with it.

I reinstalled Ubuntu Linux the other day, but when I execute "xterm", I don't like how the defaults are (bright colors on dark background, etc.) Last time I did this, I made a .cshrc file and the settings I specified in there changed the appearance and added some functionality that I liked. I still have my old .cshrc file, but I can't remember what on earth I did to cause Ubuntu to load the settings from the .cshrc file? Does bash use .cshrc? csh, tcsh.. i don't know what any of this is and would appreciate some advice. I'm basically working with vanilla Ubuntu 6.10. Thanks
