It's all about providing us with "eye candy", in the belief that we'll see it as something that is attractive.. impressive.. and convenient. It's that "age old" marketing ploy that everyone does; thinking that it makes them look good. It's like a webpage that contains three links, all three look different from each other.. but yet all three point to the same page.... more power to 'em but that don't impress me much.
Microsoft appears to be improving some on this, because they have cut down "noticeably" on this redundancy in their Internet Explorer 7 browser, compared to IE6.

Not everyone wants to do the same task the same way. For example:
To Copy and Paste you can use CTRL+C and CTRL+V. I use CTRL+Insert and SHIFT+Insert.
