Unless it's significantly better than what went before or any of it's competitors, most people wont bother until it's forced upon them or given to them 'free'. With XP perfectly functional and the rise of linux it will be interesting to see how Vista works out.

From what I've heard about Vista, it does appear to be the first operating system which is relying mainly on it's graphic design to sell itself. I'd admit what i've seen looks nice, but how much time do any of us spend staring at the desktop?
Hopefully not too long!

Yes it is!!

In fact pretty much everything in the last 5 years has felt like that. How much farther have we really come? All this extra speed, all these supposedly hugely improved apps? I'm a computer user but not a techy. I understand how computers work, but I'm frustrated at how complex everything has become. The features and facilities that I use means that a decent word processor app, a spreadsheet and a web browser is all that I need. I have a Dell PIII 500Mhz machine. I upgraded the memory to 750 Mb and put a few extra boards into it - its fantastic and has never let me down. You could probably pick one of those up for pennies today, and yet we get drawn into spending small fortunes on machines that are speced up to the hilt to cope with bloatware over flowing with features that we'll never use - seems a bit daft.

I sort of hope the thing flops - it would serve the f@cker right.

Windows XP was already a pointless upgrade we didn't need :)

I had Windows 98 and I was very happy with it, but as I bought a new PC, it came installed already with the new OS. I was tempted about changing it back, but I really need it ASAP, so I kept it.

I have XP, I got - unfortunately - used to it, so - luckily - I won't need Vista. In fact, I am planning on using Ubuntu.

well, the prob. is that we will be forced to buy vista in a yr or two. . .with the new hardware config and stuff. . .

the famous and notorious partnership between Windows and Intel (codnamed: WinTel??) will leave us no choice. . .the newer motherboards and stuff will not allow us to use win xp or wht ever !

It is a right load of rubbish.

You only need to buy it , if and when you need to change your PC.

The only point of it is to try to make people buy another PC.

Yes, read it, and read the section, "why not to buy it".
Keep away until it is sorted out!
