Software - December 2006

For some reason my windows xp account doesnt show my open windows on the taskbar. I can open other toolbars like the language and the windows media ones, but if I have none of those extra toolbars on, my whole toolbar closes on me and I have to use alt+tab to switch between programs. Minimizing doesnt helpp, because then I just have an empty desktop with no toolbars in the taskbar.

im trying to download songs from limewire and i cant cuz it says im offline...even though im not. why does it say that? by the way...im not using itunes now...if that has to do anything with it. also, i formatted my computer and reinstalled limewire again. i installed it normally so i dont know if this has to do with it too. before the format though i could download music perfectly fine (i had itunes then). what can i do to fix it????

My 2nd hand computer I recently discovered has an illegal version of windowsXP. I have fitted a new hard drive and installed on it a clean legal version of windows XP. Is there any way I can transfer the applications installed with the illegal, but fully working, version of XP to to the new drive. I could then reformat the old drive and erase everything on it?

I m Manisha Somani.I have done MBA in Finance and is interested in Sap FICO.I have come to know that the training provided by the SAP India private ltd and its educating partners is very expensive around Rs 3,00,000.

I have a problem with windows installer / uninstaller - I was trying to install sophos antivirus and it all hung up because it didn't want me to have a pdf file open at the same time. When I closed the pdf, the program appeared but didn't work. When I tried to reinstall it or uninstall whatever was there using the control panel add/ remove programs, I get an error 1721 message which related to windows installer service. Microsoft's website says to do a msiexec/unregister, msiexec/regserver procedure. When I do this I get an error message 'an event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers'.

It seems I need to repair the windows XP installation. When I put in my installation disc (it's the original, legal CD) it refuses saying that it is an older version. I've had it for a while and have uploaded SP1 and SP2 and all the updates over the years over the network.
Do I boot up on the CD and do a full reinstallation and spend hours updating SP1,2 etc? Is there a better way? Thanks.

I once compressed some files into a flash drive for backup. I have moved since then. I still have the compressed file, but I forgot the compression program that I used. Now I have a problem how to restore the compressed file. Is there a freeware that I can download to restore my files? Please help.
