Ask yourself when this started happening, and then think about what changes to the computer have been made since this challenge started happening. When you find out what changes were made you can try to undo those changes. If you don't know what changes were made, you can try a system restore (rarely works) or you can disconnect all cables to your computer except the keyboard, mouse, speakers, power and monitor. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode by using F8 and see if that makes the My Computer icon open faster. If it does, then you have something(s) running in the background in "normal" mode which is causing the slow down.

Does it ever show anything? My computer has to search for a few secomds too. I have a 200 gig partitioned into 2 drives, a sd card reader and mp3 (sometimes) , a floppy, shared doc and docs a dvd burner and a cd burner, so that's why depending on what processes are going, mine takes a few seconds to show.
I have four computers here at home networked, it's the workgroup computers I have to wait for to load.

Could be a program related to your hard drive, mine normally shows the search icon for a while and then it shows my drive.

because depending on how much ram you have or sometimes even because of background tasks running it just takes a few seconds to load everything if nothing appears try restarting if that doesnt work you MIGHT need to reinstall windows

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
