Software - November 2006

Is this a bad thing. I was infected with one virus which was removed. Also I used RegistryMechanic, but the problem was present before I used it.

I have just purchased a new laptop but although it has XP professional installed there are no Office programmes, Word, Excel and so forth. I have these pre installed on my Desktop PC, but no disk. Is it possible to copy the files to CD and load on new machine?

I'm about to fork out hard cash for a registry cleaner, but thought I should check with you guys first.

I've had this 2nd-hand PC for a month now, and pctools.com reckon Wndows 2000Pro has 158 registry errors they can fix if I buy their Cleaner.

What is it for? Is it a con?
Will it do any good?
Will it fix my frequent "Cannot find server" problem (and if not, how do I fix that, please)?

I accidentally deleted some photo folders,could not find them in recycle bin. Tried to reset computer to an earlier date, but got only empty folders. Is it possible to recover them somehow?

My desktop changed by itself... it shows "Folder Tasks" "Other Places" and "Details" for the desktop items on the left side of the screen. Identical to a regular explorer window. It's annoying.

I have looked under folder view options, display properties and cannot find anywhere to turn this "option" off.

Any help or useful comments/ thoughts are appreciated
