My desktop changed by itself... it shows "Folder Tasks" "Other Places" and "Details" for the desktop items on the left side of the screen. Identical to a regular explorer window. It's annoying.
I have looked under folder view options, display properties and cannot find anywhere to turn this "option" off.
Any help or useful comments/ thoughts are appreciated

Right click on a blank space on that bar and choose "close toolbar." That should work. Best of luck.

Under My Computer Click on Tools tab Click on Folder Options Click on View tab Scroll down to: Hidden files and folder check: Show hidden files and folders If you want more to show uncheck Hide protected operating systems files.

sounds like you have turned on the address toolbar.....right click on the taskbar and select the toolbars area then uncheck the one(s) you don't want.
