Well, the final verdict is still out since Office 2007 has yet to make a primetime release, that is a consumer-ready version. But from what I've experience with the beta version, it is in many ways an improvement over earlier versions.
However, I believe there is still a lot of life left with Office XP and 2003 so there's really no compelling reason to jump the wagon unless your a giant corporation that needs to be always on the leading edge of technology. Personally, I won't be transitioning to Office 2007 until I deem the software is mature enough to be worth the cost and that won't happen with its first commercial release.

office is office, whther its 2000, xp, 2003, or 2007...they all have the same basic progams. each upgraded version adds some extra functions, buttons, and configureability to it along with some extra clipart and stuff. Go with what you can afford, if you can afford 2007, get it, if not go with xp or 2003 as now that theres a newer version you can get the previous version(s) cheaper.
I will admit going from 2000 to 2007 is going to be a big leap and you probably will end up having to hunt around for all the functions you've come to get used to.

consumer friendly / familiarity. For living house use, people can use Microsoft get right of entry to as a yellow pages (I do besides). it relatively is consumer friendlier than different courses i've got used. i don't be attentive to something approximately programming, yet i've got found out the Microsoft place of work Suite. i don't prefer any greater beneficial training in terms of programming language with a view to enhance a database. for people who artwork in an place of work, get right of entry to is a handy gadget that works large. no prefer for a programmer or a tech.

It's Microsoft... which pretty much defines it as crap.
For good stuff, go Linux or (better yet) Macintosh. Then use the free open source software (like Open Office), instead of the expensive (and cumbersome) MS Office.
Bottom Line: If you buy Microsoft, you'll probably pay too much, get too little, what you do get probably won't work right and finally, they won't even listen to your complaint - unless you pay them to.
