I have just purchased a new laptop but although it has XP professional installed there are no Office programmes, Word, Excel and so forth. I have these pre installed on my Desktop PC, but no disk. Is it possible to copy the files to CD and load on new machine?

No.

The Office install programs makes numerous registry entries - simply copying the files from one machine to another via CD, will not make the necessary registry entries, therefore it won't work.

(Thats putting aside the fact that it'd be illegal anyway....)
